Message from the Mayor

On behalf of council and staff, I want to wish you a very Happy New Year.

I hope you had a terrific holiday season with family and friends.

It was my pleasure to attend the Gravenhurst Legion’s New Year’s Day Levee. Councillor Erin Strength and Councillor Michelle Robinson joined me at the event. I want to thank the legion for organizing a wonderful gathering.

Later in the month, I was happy to attend the Sparrow Lake Women’s Institute’s Cozy Cuppa High Tea fundraiser. Held at the lovely Blue Willow Tea Shop, the evening event was a delightful get-together for the institute, which does such splendid work in our community.

January was a magnificent month for our community’s very own Liam Brearley who won an International Ski and Snowboard Federation World Cup slopestyle gold medal in Laax, Switzerland. He also won gold at the X Games in Aspen, Colorado. Liam, we are so incredibly proud of you. You are a testament to what we can accomplish when we work hard and stay focused on our goals.

In our January Monthly Update, we have lots to share with readers including the latest on the Starboard proposal. Council has approved a settlement allowing the proposal to move forward. Please see the news release to learn more.

Elsewhere in the newsletter, you can learn about our recruitment efforts for the Gravenhurst Fire Department. Specifically, we need firefighters to serve at the Kilworthy and Barkway stations. Do you have what it takes to be in our fire service?

The newsletter also contains details about the upcoming Gravenhurst Winter Carnival. I hope you will join us for this fun-filled weekend in February. We have a lot of great activities planned. The carnival is a super way for us to come together and celebrate Gravenhurst.

As well, the newsletter includes details from our latest council and planning council meetings.

In addition, the newsletter has an item outlining the many different ways that you can stay in touch with us. I hope you’ll review these options as you now have more choices than ever before.

I look forward to updating you again next month.

Until then, please take care.

Heidi Lorenz,

Mayor.
