Welcome to our July edition of The Monthly Update.
I hope you are having a terrific summer.
It was great to see so many of you at our Canada Day celebrations. Once again, thanks to everyone who joined us. I also want to commend the many people who made the day possible.
We had several other great events in town over the course of July, including the Annual Vintage Boat Show, Tall Pines Music Festival, Muskoka Boat and Cottage Show, Muskoka Ribfest, and the Swim Ontario Open Water Championships.
For upcoming events, check out our calendar at Gravenhurst.ca. August will be another month with lots going on.
Council met on July 21 and we had another productive session. Please see Gravenhurst Council Highlights, included in this newsletter, to learn what took place.
The highlights include a link to our YouTube channel for people who wish to watch the recording of the meeting.
I am pleased to share that we are developing an Accessibility Strategic Plan for the town. The plan will identify how we can improve accessibility.
As part of the exercise, we are conducting a survey. Your feedback will help determine accessibility barriers and priorities. This month's newsletter includes a link to the survey. I hope you will participate.
We have all seen the pictures and footage of the forest fires up north. Please use extreme caution when burning in Gravenhurst.
For the latest Fire Danger Rating in Muskoka, please see the town's website. The information is also posted on our social media channels. Please check the rating each time before you burn.
The FireSmart Canada website provides essential information on protecting your property against wildland fires. I strongly recommend visiting the site to review their material.
We look forward to sharing more information with you next month.
Until then, please take care.
Heidi Lorenz,
Mayor.
