Here we are at the end of June and another busy month in Gravenhurst.
For me and other members of our council, this has been a month of meetings and community events.
For example, we had our regular committee of the whole and council meetings, which you can read all about in this latest newsletter. We also had our first Official Plan Review meeting.
Additionally, we have been at annual lake association meetings. We will be at other such meetings in the weeks ahead. I always enjoy these summertime gatherings because they are a great way to connect with permanent and seasonal residents.
It was a pleasure to see so many of you at the annual Mayor's Tea earlier this month. I want to thank everyone who came out for the day.
At the tea, it was an honour to present Gravenhurst resident Judy Humphries with the Ontario Senior of the Year Award.
I was also delighted to present District Councillor Sandy Cairns with the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Long-standing Service Recognition Certificate.
You can learn more about these presentations in this month's newsletter.
Also this month, we welcomed a new business to downtown Gravenhurst. Discover Arts Muskoka Gallery and Gifts is at 100 Muskoka Rd. N. A photo of the grand opening is in the newsletter. I highly encourage people to stop by for a visit. The gallery features some beautiful items.
We also welcomed The Quilt Store to the downtown and celebrated a grand reopening for Blooming Muskoka at its new location. See the photos in the newsletter to learn more.
The Gravenhurst Farmers' Market started its season on June 3. There is an amazing array of vendors on hand every Wednesday at Gull Lake Rotary Park.
Once again, the town has an information booth at the market. Each week, representatives from different departments are there. So far, staff report some great conversations with residents and visitors. Please stop by if you are at the market.
The 2026 Rameses Shriners Spring Ceremonial took place June 11 to June 14 in Muskoka. The Muskoka Shrine Club, celebrating its 50th anniversary, hosted the event. I was happy to welcome Shriners to Gravenhurst before they boarded the Wenonah II for a cruise. I again want to thank the Shriners for all the fundraising work they do to support specialized medical care for children.
The Gravenhurst Car Show was June 20 and there were a number of beautiful vintage automobiles on hand. Kudos to the Gravenhurst Chamber of Commerce for organizing this show each year.
Earlier in the month, the annual Gutsy Walk took place at Gull Lake Rotary Park. This fundraising walk supports research into Crohn's and Colitis. I want to thank everyone who came out for the event.
Coming up, we have some terrific community events.
I hope you will join us for Canada Day celebrations at Muskoka Wharf. Please see the poster in the newsletter for details or check out Gravenhurst.ca.
Cinema Under the Stars starts next month at Gull Lake Rotary Park. See the information item in the newsletter to learn more about what's in store.
The Gravenhurst Public Library is launching its summer programs. See the item in our newsletter to learn more or visit the library website.
Lastly, on behalf of council and town staff, I want to congratulate all the graduates in our community. Whether you are finishing elementary school, high school, or post-secondary, well done and best wishes for the next chapter.
We look forward to sharing more information with you next month.
Until then, please take care.
Heidi Lorenz,
Mayor.
