Message from the Mayor

Welcome to our latest edition of The Monthly Update.

On behalf of council and staff, I want to wish everyone a Happy Easter weekend.

Hopefully, you get to spend some quality time with family and friends.

If you have to work this long weekend, I hope you get an opportunity at a later date to enjoy some time with the people who matter most to you.

I want to pay special tribute to the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other medical professionals who are working this Easter weekend. Thank you for your service to our community. We appreciate all the great work you do.

In our latest e-newsletter, we have some terrific information to share.

Earlier in the month, Graydon Smith, Ontario's associate minister of municipal affairs and housing, announced that the Town of Gravenhurst is receiving up to $780,000 to help pay for emergency response and cleanup costs due to the extreme snowfall that occurred in November 2024.

A few days later, the minister said Gravenhurst will receive $243,000 to help cover cleanup and emergency response costs due to the March 2025 ice storm.

Please see both items in the newsletter to learn more.

Council and staff have worked hard to secure this funding. We are grateful to the province for its support.

And the good news continues.

Earlier in March, through the town's Terence Haight Financial Assistance Program, we awarded $30,000 to 11 deserving organizations. Congratulations to all the recipients and thank you for your fantastic contributions to Gravenhurst.

See the newsletter to learn more about this year's funding.

There are two other things I want to highlight.

The first is we are now accepting nominations for the Ontario Senior of the Year Award. If you know a deserving individual, please consider nominating them.

As well, the town is now accepting applications for its annual Gravenhurst High School Bursary. The $2,000 bursary can be used to offset any post-secondary education costs.

Details regarding both these opportunities - Senior of the Year and GHS Bursary - can be found further down in the newsletter.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone who joined us for the recent 125th anniversary celebrations we had for the Gravenhurst Opera House. It was wonderful to see so many people turn out.

That's all I have for now.

We look forward to updating you again next month.

Until then, please take care.

Heidi Lorenz,

Mayor.
