Message from the Mayor

What a terrific month this has been in Gravenhurst.

We had so much going on.

In early May, the new Fairfield Inn and Suites opened in the south end of our community.

The hotel is a beautiful new facility.

It was great to see so many residents and business leaders in attendance at the grand opening.

This new space will be well used throughout the year.

At our council meeting this month, we approved the Gravenhurst Housing Action Plan.

The plan focuses on actions we can take over the next decade to increase the supply of affordable housing in Gravenhurst.

These will be important steps.

The intent of the plan is to support residents who cannot afford current market prices but do not qualify for subsidized or other affordable housing that is offered through the District of Muskoka.

Also, this month we celebrated McHappy Day, which raises money for Ronald McDonald House Charities. I want to thank everyone who supported this important fundraiser.

And on May 26, we marked National AccessAbility Week with a flag raising at town hall. I want to thank Community Living South Muskoka for joining us.

It was great to see the Community Living South Muskoka flag flying high atop our flagpole.

As well, we celebrated Building Safety Month in May and we unveiled our new community art displays in the lobby at the municipal office and in the council chambers.

As I said, we had a lot happening this month, and all of this as our operations team continues efforts to clean up the community from the latest storm event.

You can learn more about these things in this latest edition of our monthly e-newsletter.

We've also got information about the upcoming Mayor's Tea on June 11 - I hope you can join us! - and Pollinator Week, which runs June 16 to 22.

And, as always, the newsletter includes a link to our council highlights package.

I look forward to updating you again next month.

Until then, please take care.

Heidi Lorenz,

Mayor.
