Welcome to our latest edition of The Monthly Update.
As you'll see from the newsletter, there has been a lot happening in our community since we last touched base with you at the end of April.
For example, Belonging Without Barriers was a terrific accessibility focused event at the Gravenhurst Seniors Centre. I again thank our Accessibility Advisory Committee for organizing this great day.
And it was wonderful to celebrate the grand reopening of Palmeri's Your Independent Grocer in Gravenhurst. The renovated store looks beautiful. If you have not checked out Palmeri's lately be sure to pop by. Kudos to the entire team for a job well done.
Another special event was the grand opening for Slick Back Barber. It was a pleasure to participate in their big day and we wish them all the best.
Also in May, we launched a new service that will help people with vision loss navigate the public areas at the municipal office. This service involves using the BlindSquare app. Check out the item in the newsletter to learn more. This is pretty cool technology and we are pleased to offer its availability at our municipal office. Thanks to the Accessibility Advisory Committee for driving this project.
Like I said, we've had a lot happening in May and The Monthly Update is your best source for staying in the loop.
But we've also got some great stuff coming up.
The Gravenhurst Farmers' Market starts June 3 at Gull Lake Rotary Park. The market takes place every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The final market is Oct. 7. Once again this year, the town will have a booth at the market. It's a great way for us to connect with residents and visitors. Please drop by and say hello. Staff will have all kinds of information to share with you.
The annual Mayor's Tea is on June 3 as well. See the newsletter for full details. I'm looking forward to seeing so many of you at this event.
The Bay and Beyond Infrastructure project is getting under way once again. Spearheaded by the District of Muskoka, this multi-year project involves upgrading infrastructure that dates back to the 1940s. Again, see our newsletter to learn more.
I also want to mention we have started a review of our Official Plan. The Official Plan is a document outlining how land will be used in the municipality in the years ahead. You can learn all about this in the newsletter. As you'll read, the review will result in a completely new plan that will serve as a dynamic roadmap for the town for the next 30 years.
On a lighter note, the start of the 2026 Music on the Barge concert series is just around the corner. Our first concert is Sunday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. The Gravenhurst Bifocals Concert Band will perform. I hope to see you at Gull Lake Rotary Park.
