Welcome to The Monthly Update.
This is the last newsletter before our municipal election.
As a result, I want to take a moment to highlight a few things that council achieved this term, though this is far from a complete list.
Over the past four years, we have seen more than 300 single family homes built, 200 purpose built-rentals, and 70 multi-residential units, and we have approved another 67 purpose-built rentals.
We have increased our communication through regular updates on our website, this e-newsletter, council highlights, and through various public outreach opportunities.
The town has collected almost a million dollars through the Municipal Accommodation Tax, which has been used for tourism-related projects.
Our Transportation Master Plan identified direct response transit as the best solution for moving folks around and with the support of the District Municipality of Muskoka that is what has been implemented and already expanded.
We should all be proud of our Recreation for All Policy that was recently approved. The policy aims to ensure low-income residents and persons with disabilities have even greater access to municipal recreation and culture activities.
I also want to point out that we've provided more than $400,000 in Community Improvement Program grants and work is now taking place to relaunch the Gravenhurst BIA.
It has been incredible to see the second floor of the Cottage Country Family Health Team come to fruition. Our initial $200,000 investment has kicked off an amazing fundraising campaign thanks to the Gravenhurst Rotary Club. The town's advocacy and investment on physician recruitment and operating funding will see the gap of 6,000 unattached patients finally closing.
As our council term winds down, I want to say that it has been a privilege to serve as your mayor.
On behalf of council, I want to thank our incredible town staff who dedicate their lives to public service, who day in and day out, do their best to support the needs of our community.
I also want to thank every member of council - you have a lot to be proud of.
As well, I want to thank my family for their support this council term.
