Message from the Mayor

In this edition we share with you details about the launch of our fall recreation programs.

Please take some time to review the programs and hopefully you and your family members can find something fun to do.

We have such activities as ultimate frisbee, public skating, learn to cook programs, improv opportunities, and much more.

If you have ideas for future programs, please let us know. Your feedback is always welcome.

On another note, please see the item about Terence Haight grant funding. We are now accepting grant applications for 2025. Community groups and organizations can apply for grants. Funding can be used to support activities, special events, or improvements to existing assets.

Dec. 16 is the deadline to apply for a grant. If you need assistance with your application, please contact our economic development staff.

Earlier this month, we recognized two Gravenhurst firefighters for their longstanding service to our community. Once again, on behalf of council, I want to congratulate Platoon Chief Chris Allen and Platoon Chief and Training Officer Tracy Jocque for their contributions. See the related item in our e-newsletter to learn more.

I am happy to report that at our council meeting on Sept. 17 we authorized the hiring of Advance Excavating and General Contracting Ltd. to complete the North Morrison Landing parking lot expansion project. Once complete, there will be a net difference of 16 spaces above what is currently at the site. The aim is to have the project mostly finished towards the end of October.

Also at the council meeting, we appointed Craig Little, Eric Vanderburg, Karen Moyer, Samuel Van Weert, Tina Kilbourne, and Valerie Loshaw to our new Trails Committee. I want to thank each member for their interest in serving.

To learn more about our latest council meeting, see the Council Highlights package.

Another newsletter item I want to flag is the upcoming Gravenhurst Autumn Arts Tour, which runs Sept. 28 and 29. This is going to be another wonderful opportunity for people to explore the rich and diverse artistic talent that exits in our community. I want to thank the local artists participating in what will be a really special two-day event. See the newsletter item below for full details.

I look forward to updating you again next month.

Until then, please take care.

Heidi Lorenz,

Mayor.
