When I first arrived at Defender Resorts more than six years ago I had done a lot of marketing for a lot of different types of companies, everything from consumer products such as Australian spray tans to healthcare apps and business-to-business services, but nothing has been quite like the legacy timeshare industry.

Through the years I've worked with industry leaders Defender Resorts and SPM Resorts, both which now co-exist as National Hospitality Group and while observing management companies work hand-in-hand with boards I've picked up some of the ways in which effective leadership in the legacy timeshare industry is unique. Overall I've noticed that effective leadership relies on communication.

Here's a look at some of the news we've seen this week.
Two  Holiday Inn Club Vacations  Brand team members put aside their fears to help support  Give Kids The World  by rappelling from the 28 floor of one of Orlando's iconic hotels on Friday, February 9. IT Manager Jimmy Dean and Operations Specialist Christina Perez raised nearly $6,000 as part of the  Over The Edge  fundraiser which provides those individuals that raise a certain amount of money the opportunity to rappel off of a high-rise building. This year the Hyatt Regency Orlando hosted the event on its 28 th  floor with more than 60 individuals taking the challenge to raise funds for the charity and the courage to do go over the edge and descend to the bottom of the hotel.

Harvey culminated his outstanding career in the timeshare industry as Vice President of Sales and Marketing from 1983-1990 with Sandstone Marketing Group.  Harvey was a pioneer of on-site (in-house) sales, and during those years was responsible for sales and marketing activity for resorts in Padre Island, TX, Steamboat Springs, CO, and Lake of the Ozarks in Branson, MO in addition to managing off-site sales throughout the State of Texas.
