Welcome to The Mt. Lion Roar where you can read about some of the things happening in the Altoona Area School District. With nearly 8,000 students, AASD is the area's top choice for Academics, Arts and Athletics.
This second grade student and his sister sent homemade cards to the Altoona Police Department as part of his community helper assignment. They were both very excited to receive a thank you letter from Chief Freehling and the officers for their kindness.

What a great assignment and thank you to Lucas and his sister for recognizing the Altoona Police Officers.  
This first grader from Pleasant Valley Elementary completes her at-home assignments every day with her best friend.
Students are encouraged to join the Counseling Google Classrooms where there is a lot of great resources for college and career planning, social and emotional resources, financial aid, stay-at-home activities, and lots more! Students should contact their school counselor for entry into the classroom.
The Summer Food Program will begin the week of June 8, 2020 with a new format. The Altoona Area School District will replace the current meal delivery program with a program providing meals for multiple days. We are asking for your feedback on how best to provide this service.
The program will provide five breakfast meals and five lunch meals per child on Wednesday each week. Meals can be ordered for each child in your home 18 and under and will be available for pick up at designated locations. 
Distribution will begin on June 10th with the final distribution July 29th.

The AASD Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Final General Fund Budget (formatted by the PA Department of Education) is now available for public review.

Penn State Altoona Student Marshalls
Congratulations to AAHS Class of 2016 alumni Brandis Ajay (BA, Integrated Arts), Stephanie Davis (BS, Elementary & Early Childhood) and Taylor Stoudnour (BS, Biology) who were selected as 2020 spring student marshals for the spring 2020 Penn State Altoona virtual commencement on May 9, 2020.

Each were selected to represent their academic division based on their outstanding academic achievement.

Altoona Area High School gym equipment, restaurant equipment and school furniture liquidation. The online auction is now open and bidding closes June 1.

Mansion Park Stadium Opens
Beginning Monday, May 18,Mansion Park Stadium will be open for limited use Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM.  AASD Police Services will be conducting routine patrols of the facility. Anyone with concerns may contact AASD Police Services by calling 941-6150.

The following guidelines shall be followed when using the facility:
1.    No organized group activities permitted; football games, soccer games, etc.
2.    Large gatherings of more than 25 are prohibited.
3.    Please continue to practice six (6) feet social distancing.
4.    Hand sanitizing stations are available for use and strongly recommended.
5.    Please do not use the facility if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, have been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, have traveled to areas with high incidence of COVID-19, or have a temperature greater than 100.4.

The facility is subject to closure if guidelines are not followed.   
AASD Tax Office Opens - Modified Hours
In response to Blair County's move to the yellow phase, the AASD Tax Office will be open for limited days and by appointment. Taxpayers will be required to wear a mask and maintain appropriate social distancing.

The office will be open Tuesday, May 19; Thursday, May 21; Wednesday, May 27;and Friday, May 29. The June schedule will be announced at a later date.

The AASD Tax Office is located at 200 E. Crawford Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602. For appointments call 814-946-8466.

The Altoona Area School District has extended the filing deadline for Occupational Flat Rate tax, Business Privilege and Mercantile tax returns until July 15, 2020.
