Welcome to The Mt. Lion Roar where you can read about some of the things happening in the Altoona Area School District. With nearly 8,000 students, AASD is the area's top choice for Academics, Arts and Athletics.
Kindergarten registration
Children who are 5 years old on or before September 1, 2019 should register for Kindergarten as soon as possible for the 2018-2019 school year.

Parents may register online at Kindergarten Registration or by contacting the Student Registration office at 814-381-7585 to set up an appointment.

To register please provide Proof of Age, Photo ID, Proof of Residency, Immunizations, and Custody Papers (if Applicable).
Accessing Schedules
Skyward is closed to students until Friday, August 23. Student schedules will be available at Meet the Teacher Nights.
Immunization Requirements
AAHS 10th Grade & New Student Orientation
Who: 10th grade students and all who are new to the Altoona Area High School

What: New Student Meet the Teacher Day - This is a great opportunity to begin getting accustomed to the walls of the Altoona Area High School, your educational home for the next three years. The orientation is a jump start to meeting teachers, walking through your schedule, opening lockers and meeting your principal before the first day of school. Students will be provided with an abbreviated schedule upon entering the building and reporting to their reporting rooms.
When: August 23, 2019 from 8:00-11:00 AM

Student/Parent Orientation Times
To facilitate a smooth transition, the AAJHS administration has planned a student/parent orientation 7th grade program for August 13th , which will allow incoming students and their parents to visit their classrooms before the first day of classes. During the Orientation, students and parents will be given the opportunity to meet the administration and guidance counselors. Gym uniforms will also be available for purchase during this time. The program will be divided into groups based on 7th grade teams. A letter containing information regarding times should be arriving the second week of August.
An orientation for new incoming 8th and 9th grade students has been scheduled for Thursday, August 15th at 9:00 AM in the AAJHS Auditorium.
In addition to the new student orientation, parents are invited to attend a "Meet the Teacher Night" on Thursday, August 22 from 5:00 - 7:30 PM. The evening program has been scheduled for PARENTS ONLY. Parents will have the opportunity to go through their child's schedule, spending 10 minutes in each class to meet teachers, receive information about the class, and ask questions. The school counselors and administration will also be present to discuss any further questions or concerns.
AASD Cafeteria Services
Information about Cafeteria Services will be sent to families the third week in August.

The packet will contain information on MySchoolBucks, Cafe Enterprise System and Free & Reduced Lunch guidelines and application.

Meal prices for the 2019-2020 school year:
  • Lunch - $2.05
  • Breakfast - $1.00

The Altoona Area School District Cafeterias are proud to offer meals that are healthy, well balanced, and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school. Now is a great time to encourage your child(ren) to choose school breakfast and lunch! 
Notice of Bus Assignment & Transportation
Parents and guardians should expect to receive notice of bus assignment and transportation information the third week of August.

After receiving the information, any questions regarding transportation should be directed to the Transportation office at 814-946-8221.

Mansion Park Stadium Reminder

For the safety and security of all those attending events at Mansion Park Stadium, the following rules will be followed:

  1. No backpacks permitted in the stadium
  2. No footballs, balls, frisbees, etc. may be brought into the stadium
  3. All bags are subject to search
  4. AASD is a Tobacco Free Zone, no smoking or tobacco use of any kind is permitted
  5. No weapons are permitted inside the stadium
Parents are encouraged to monitor their child's behavior when attending football games.

Please understand these safety measures are in place in order to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all spectators and athletes.
