Volunteer Spotlight

There’s no "cookie-cutter" way to describe the incredible work of Kimberly Rosenfeld, Kristi Benjenk, and Emilee Girvan, the magical elves behind our Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Fundraiser!

For 11 years, these three have baked up a delightful event that has become a festive Meadows tradition, and we couldn’t be more grateful for all of their hard work and dedication. What started as a cozy Mustang Social at Kimberly’s house has grown into a grand event in the cafeteria, where over 140 TK-5th grade students gather after school to decorate their very own gingerbread houses. From the first frosting swirl to the final candy sprinkle, these ladies have made sure every detail is sweetly executed. And it’s not just about the gingerbread—snacks, refreshments, and a holiday movie keep the energy high and the smiles bright. Kimberly, Emilee, and Kristi’s attention to detail have made this fundraiser a holiday highlight for kids and families alike. Thanks to their efforts, the event continues to be an amazing way to kick off the holidays while raising funds for Meadows.

And thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to ensure the event was a success. Thank you, Karen VanCleve, Lori Angeleri, Jamie Eng, Lexi Ley, Jillian Robertson, Cindy Marian, Laura McDonald, Stephanie Landis, Katie Kundrotas, Shirley Cramer, Mona Afrashteh, Lillian Dunker Cruz, Kimberly Pasquali, Heather Bobo, and April McGrath. Extra special thanks to Julie Ustick too! Your dedication is icing on the cake!

Do you know a volunteer who deserves a shout out? Nominate them for our next Volunteer Spotlight.

NEWS FROM MBUSD

Enrollment & Assistance for Those Displaced by Fires

As wildfires continue to cause destruction in Southern California, it has been a difficult time for thousands across Los Angeles County. Our hearts are with the families impacted by the devastation. We understand that many have been displaced and uprooted from their communities, and MBUSD is here to support them during this challenging time.

The District is ready to welcome displaced students and their families who are enrolling in our schools. Families can simply bring whatever documentation they have to an MBUSD school office. If they don’t have documentation, they can still enroll, and school staff will help with the process to ensure a smooth transition. For more information, please visit here

In partnership with Redondo Beach Unified and Hermosa Beach City School District, we are coordinating efforts to promote donations to supplybank.org (endorsed by the California Department of Education) and the Red Cross

The City of Manhattan Beach has also listed ways to help victims. You can find that information here.
