Message from NCALA President & CEO

First, it was incredible to see such a huge turn-out at our annual 2022 Fall Conference & Trade Show earlier this month in Winston-Salem, NC. We had the largest attendance ever in NCALA history and look forward to breaking that record in 2023!

For two years (2021 and 2022), NCALA was happy to be able to apply a 10% discount to membership dues to help off-set the additional financial burdens to providers from COVID-19. 2023 Membership Dues renewal invoices will be emailed to providers prior to Thanksgiving this year. Please note that membership dues will go back to the 2020 rate of $19.50 per licensed bed. We look forward to working with each of you in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Frances Messer

New Emergency Visitation Protocols Now in Effect

All North Carolina adult care homes and family care homes (Facilities) must now have in place an emergency visitation policy (EVP) that will be implemented in the event normal visitation policies are suspended or changed due to a declared disaster or emergency.

The EVP should be included with the admission packet and the process

and protocol should be explained to new residents.

Pursuant to Session Law 2021-145, known as “Clifford’s Law,” Facilities are required to develop specific visitation policies to have in place in the event regular visitation policies must be suspended or limited. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) has prepared specific protocols for Facilities to follow in accordance with Clifford’s Law.

These protocols were published on June 27, 2022, and went into effect immediately.

Clifford's Law: What you need to know

Scalable growth

The senior living industry is poised for scalable growth to meet pent up market demand. That brings great opportunities —and new barriers to capitalize on them.

It starts with staffing. Operators running senior living communities are in a constant race to staff up to meet growing demand. Yet finding qualified candidates to provide great care has never been more difficult, while the concurrent operational challenges can hamper a community’s ability to keep those people.

Fortunately, operators now have access to a host of tools and techniques they can use to solve today’s most pressing challenges.

In this white paper, you will learn four key steps in your scalable growth.

Keep residents happier and healthier

When Cascade Senior Living Services began operating three senior living communities in Washington state, one of its biggest challenges was ensuring consistent, quality care for residents. They turned to Optum for help.

The Optum care model and UnitedHealthcare Assisted Living Plan brought specialized health care benefits, clinical support and expert care teams to Cascade. The care teams make regular visits and help coordinate and manage residents’ total care and benefits, which include everything from therapy to sitter services.

Find out how the Optum partnership helped add a layer of care to support the senior living communities.

Keep residents healthier and happier

New senior living tech to add to your 2023 budget

Senior living communities across the country are becoming more and more dependent on new technology with new features and enhancements. But how do you know which technology enhancements will streamline caregiver workflows and help residents maintain their independence, and which improvements are unnecessary and cumbersome? Sentrics has identified the essential technology enhancements to add in 2023. Life safety, entertainment, engagement, and technical support are the top priorities for senior living.

Must-have tech for 2023

K4Connect and Vayyar Care Partner in advancing Fall-Detection Technology

Rencare Consulting is offering a Hybrid 80 Hour PCA Program with in-person K4Connect, senior living’s leading integrated enterprise technology platform enabling the best in care, services and hospitality for older adults, and Vayyar Care, a global leader in automatic fall detection and remote monitoring, have entered into a partnership to bring next-generation touchless, camera-free fall detection technology to senior living residents and operators across the U.S.

Falls are the number one injury risk for older adults, accounting for tens of thousands of fatalities per year and billions in annual healthcare costs. Today, this problem is further compounded by the rapid decline in the caregiver workforce that supports the fast-growing older adult demographic. To address this nation-wide concern, Vayyar Care will integrate with K4Community, K4Connect’s solution for the residents, staff and operators of senior living communities, to deliver the industry’s most advanced automated fall detection solution available.
