National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

The month of July is observed as National Minority Mental Health awareness month. According to the Census Bureau of 2019, 39.9% of the population identified as non-White or Hispanic. According to additional research, provided by the 2020 Census Bureau, the Multiracial population showed a major growth measuring 33.8 million a 236% increase. The landscape of communities continues to change but access to mental health resources in racial and ethnic minority communities continue to face a growing struggle with mental health for various reasons. Mental health by definition is a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being.

It is extremely important to continue the discussion of mental health. Contrary to cultural or gender stigmas it is okay to seek professional help. A mental health professional can be psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and social workers. They specialize in helping an individual, YOU, manage mental illness, cope with stress or traumas.

Let’s do math! There are 168 hours in a week, subtract your work hours, subtract your commute to work, subtract the drop off time for the kids to school, subtract running errands or attending school, subtract your sleeping hours… you get the picture.

At the end of the day self-care is important and vital in order to balance you mentally, physically, and emotionally. Take the time to help you live well. You are not alone. Recognition is the first step. We are proud of you now talk to someone, a friend, family member, or professional.
