MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

The Importance of the 17th SDG:
Partnerships for the Goals
During a long hot summer, as I thought about my message for NGO colleagues for this issue of the NGO Reporter, I reflected on all the ways that we have been challenged this year and how the Pandemic has upended our lives, personal and professional around the world, and I wondered how to overcome the obstacles and move forward with the UN mandate to achieve the SDGs by 2030?
I thought of the word "Partnership" and the seventeenth Sustainable Development Goal. In my research I found that the concept of working together towards achieving the Goals is developed in detail in the UN SDG Partnership Guidebook, which is found online by searching for "UN SDG Partnership Guidebook." I urge all to review this comprehensive view of how we must cooperate on an international level to achieve the Goals.
To achieve the Goals, it is recommended that we no longer think in terms of supporting individual actions for a single SDG, but rather in terms of cooperation on all the SDGs in each of three major categories, 1. Prosperous Economy (4 goals) #8 Decent Work and Economic growth; #9 Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; #10 Reduce Inequalities; # 12 Responsible Consumption and Production, 2. Thriving Society (6 goals) #7 Affordable and Clean Energy; #1 No Poverty; #16 Peace Justice and Strong Institutions; #11 Sustainable Cities and Communities ; # 4 Quality Education; #3 Good Health and Wellbeing; #5 Gender Equality; #2 Zero Hunger, 3. Healthy Environment (4 goals) #15 Life on Land; #14 Life Below Water; # 6 Clean Water and Sanitation; # 13 Climate Action.
The SDG Partnership Guidebook offers guidance to establish partnering methods for NGOs as well as the public and private sectors. If we are to achieve the goals by 2030, we must recognize that they are interconnected and that we must work in partnership to achieve major societal change. The SGD Partnership Guidebook is an excellent resource for information. I welcome your comments and suggestions on how we can create NGO partnerships to achieve the goals. Fannie Munlin

He says that a global approach is the only way to fight the virus and that without critical support the impact of Covid-19 will be deep and particularly severe on poorer nations. SDG IMPACT AWARDS: A COMMUNITY

LOCALIZING CLIMATE JUSTICE: A NEW SERIES
|
The Localizing Climate Justice Conference Series (LCJC) is being co-organized by the Core Team of youth climate activists behind the Global Youth Climate Action Declaration (GYCAD
) movement and a myriad of co-sponsoring organizations. Additional information and registration can be found here: gycad.org/lcjc
The event's co-sponsors include: YOUNGO, Citizens' Climate Lobby, the Global NGO Executive Committee, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), CEWAS Middle East, Climate-Smart Agriculture Youth Network (CSAYN), Lehigh University's United Nations Partnership & Environmental Initiative, CEVKOand more (full list can be found at gycad.org/lcjc).
This virtual conference series will commence with a launch event on Friday, September 25th taking place from 10 am to noon Eastern Standard Time in order to accommodate a wide range of global time zones and to ensure maximum participation from the Global South. The launch event and all subsequent conference events will be
free of cost to all wishing to participate.
The emphasis on climate justice was intentional: we can not expect to make the immediate and long-term changes necessary if the actions we choose to take do not include and address the challenges and well being of all. Our movement forward into a sustainable and environmentally healthy future must be urgent and community-led, with the well-being of our local communities and our most underrepresented or vulnerable populations at the center of any discourse and decision-making processes.
The LCJC Series Launch event will convene mayors, other policymakers, youth climate activists, and major stakeholders from around the world in the movement for climate justice in order to spotlight local approaches to climate reform & create space for an ongoing dialogue between policymakers and their constituents on the subject of climate change. Originally planned as a two day event, the organizers and co-sponsors decided to spread out the conference material over a longer timespan in order to maximize meaningful participation and engagement with the content.
The conference series will span many months, with each monthly event focused on a key thematic policy impact area from the Global Youth Climate Action Declaration and convening a dialogue on that topic. The themes discussed include the following:

THE GLOBAL NGO EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Publishers of the NGO Reporter, the recently renamed Global NGO Executive Committee was founded in 1962 to create a link between the United Nations and the Non-Governmental Organizations associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications UNDGC (formerly: Public Information). It is composed of eighteen Directors and encourages and assists NGOs, as members of civil society, to communicate their interests throughout the United Nations system and to support United Nations' goals and objectives. In partnership with the United Nations Department of Global Communication, the Global NGO Executive Committee co-produces annual conferences for the 1500+ accredited DGC/NGOs around the world.

Exhaustive investigations
demonstrate that a Volume of the NGO Reporter, under Founder and former Editor Dorrie Weiss, was in its fifth year in 1997. Begun in 1992, then, that would make 2020 its 28th consecutive year of publication. Its free subscriber list includes NGO leaders associated with UNDGC (see above), as well as UN and other media, and all those interested in UN-related, NGO activities at UNHQ and worldwide that are created or promoted by the Global NGO Executive Committee, editor, staff.
Prior to her passing, Ms. Weiss mentored Patrick, as Editor, who later invited Dr. Lester Wilson. They became its co-editors for nearly two decades, assisted in large measure by the dearly departed Joan Levy, and former site manager Isaac Humphries. To all those volunteers, we remain eternally grateful.
