The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine, the official publication of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, invites submissions of original articles, features, reviews, or related items for upcoming issues. The magazine is an online-only publication.

About the Magazine

The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine serves as a forum for law enforcement executives and professionals throughout New Jersey and beyond. The publication features articles and commentary on policing leadership, management, policy, training, technology, and professional excellence. The magazine also welcomes submissions that would be of professional interest to our primary readership.


Who May Contribute

Submissions are welcome from:

  • Law enforcement executives and practitioners
  • Academic researchers and instructors in law enforcement, criminal justice, or public administration
  • Public officials, legal professionals, and policy experts
  • Participants and graduates of NJSACOP professional development programs

Purpose and Editorial Focus

The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine is the flagship publication of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP). Its mission is to advance professional law enforcement leadership by publishing insightful, educational, and thought-provoking articles relevant to police executives, command-level officers, and public safety professionals. Articles should emphasize leadership, management, ethics, training, professional development, innovation, and policy in policing. Submissions that share best practices, case studies, or research applicable to New Jersey law enforcement are especially encouraged.


Article Types

  • Feature Articles (1,500–2,500 words): In-depth analysis, leadership case studies, or professional development topics.
  • Commentary / Perspectives (800–1,200 words): Shorter opinion pieces or reflections on current issues in policing.
  • Program Profiles (600–1,000 words): Descriptions of innovative programs, initiatives, or agency successes.
  • Book or Policy Reviews (up to 800 words): Reviews relevant to police leadership and management.


Manuscript Preparation

  • Format: Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word (.docx) format, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins and 12-point font (Times New Roman or similar).
  • Title Page: Include article title, author(s) full name(s), rank/title, agency or organization (if applicable), mailing address, phone number, and email.
  • Abstract: A short (50–75 words) summary is encouraged for feature articles.
  • Headings/Subheadings: Use clear and consistent headings for readability.


Graphics and Images

Authors are encouraged to submit photographs, charts, or graphics that enhance the article.

  • Resolution: Minimum 300 dpi.
  • Format: JPEG or PNG.
  • Captions: Provide brief captions and photo credits.
  • Permissions: Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to use any copyrighted material.


Editorial Review Process

All submissions are reviewed by the editorial staff for content, style, and relevance. Selected articles may also undergo review by subject matter experts. The editor reserves the right to edit for clarity, length, and consistency with NJSACOP’s editorial standards.


Originality and Ethics

Submissions must be original, unpublished work. Articles that have appeared elsewhere, in whole or part, must include disclosure and written permission for reprint. Authors are responsible for ensuring factual accuracy, respecting confidentiality, and upholding ethical standards consistent with professional law enforcement values.


Author Biography

Include a brief (50–100 word) professional biography, including current position, agency, and any relevant experience or education.

Copyright and Reprint Policy

Upon acceptance, authors grant The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine the right to publish the work in print and digital formats. Authors retain the right to use their work for educational or professional purposes with proper citation.
