Helping Needy Families Have A Brighter Future

A normal November for Help Give Hope (HGH) is busy but not crazy. That month between the hundreds of home visits of October and the shopping, auditing, wrapping & distribution of December. A time for shop sheets to be created, jobs around the warehouse completed and tying up loose ends. And, of course, turkey day! But what is normal about 2020?

Murray, Sandy and Michael are indeed creating extensive shopping lists and work never ends in the warehouse & office. But what is very different this year is we've moved up our two major shopping days to Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 16th & 17th; and auditing to Wednesday, Nov. 18th. Please mark your calendars!. We're shopping & auditing early this year as product availability is uncertain for many of the items we typically need. The extra few weeks will give us time to locate hard-to-find gifts and be ready for our December two-week sprint to the finish line which includes wrapping and distribution.

We will need many volunteers for shopping, auditing and wrapping!! See the Christmas Project Schedule below for specific dates, times and locations. Rest assured, the safety of our volunteers and employees is our top concern! Every precaution will be taken to ensure a safe and healthy experience. These are strange and challenging times but we are committed to another great Christmas project...which means providing the best Christmas ever to nearly 500 deserving kids and their families.

PLEASE NOTE: We need many volunteers for shopping, auditing and wrapping!! As noted, our #1 priority is the safety and health of our volunteers and employees! As such, we believe we have made shopping and wrapping safe for everyone. Below is the schedule and we hope you will join us for all things Christmas at HGH!

Christmas Shopping:
When: November 16th & 17th
Where: Wal-Mart Supercenter, Ozark, MO
Need lots and lots of shoppers both days!
Time: 7am both days

When: November 18th, 9am Need volunteers!
Where: HGH warehouse, 2809 N. Cedarbrook (across street from Ozarks Food Harvest)

Wrapping Party:
When: December 11th & 12th, 9am to approx. 1pm both days
Where: HGH warehouse
Come one, come all!!

We will update this schedule as necessary. Once again, our priority is the safety and health of our HGH family of volunteers and employees as well as those who have come to us for help.

Suzy Bunge, one of Help Give Hope’s brightest shining stars, lost a sudden battle with Covid-19 on October 27.

Pat and Ken Carter introduced Suzy and her husband Eddy to HGH in 2012, during our Christmas wrapping party. As they say, “the rest is history.” Suzy has been a staple with the garage sale since the Spring of 2013, giving thousands of hours. Her commitment to HGH doesn’t stop there. Home visits, shopping, wrapping, whatever the need, Suzy was right there to help. She recruited her family and friends to become involved because of her deep belief in the mission of HGH. When volunteering, Suzy was the first to show up and the last to leave, often having Eddy wait in the car as she finished conversations with friends. She made countless friendships through her volunteering and in 2016 was honored along with Eddy as Volunteers of the Year. Suzy was also involved with her church, organizing dinners, picnics and whatever needed to get the job done.

The lights are a little less bright at HGH these days and we will all need to adjust to our new normal without Suzy around. But rest assured, we will work harder because Suzy would want us to.
