May Chapter Meeting

Held in the beautiful Natuzzi Italia showroom, our “Missed Out on Milan? All the Design We Can’t Stop Thinking About” event brought together designers, industry professionals, and friends for an engaging evening of conversation centered around Milan Design Week—including highlights from our recent Milan Experience Trip.

From the iconic fairgrounds of Salone del Mobile to the vibrant streets of Fuorisalone, ASID NY Metro Professional Development Director Brian Gallop moderated a lively discussion with Maria Lomanto, Founding Principal of DesignGLXY Group and Past President of ASID NY Metro; President-Elect Asler Valero; Arlene Angard of Arlene Angard Designs & Fine Art; and Chris Abbate, Founder of Novità Communications. Attendees shared top discoveries, takeaways, and personal favorites from their time in Milan.

Natuzzi’s Creative Director, PJ Natuzzi, joined the conversation to share his own Milan highlights along with insights into the brand’s rich heritage and enduring design philosophy, Design in Harmony—a theme that echoed across Milan and remains at the heart of Natuzzi Italia.

Sustainability in Focus: Alkemis Paint Sponsors ASID NY Metro Event at R & Company

Alkemis Paint recently welcomed ASID NY Metro members for an inspiring morning of conversation focused on sustainable innovation in design. As one of the only Cradle to Cradle Certified® paints in North America, Alkemis Paint showcased how their eco-conscious solutions are redefining performance, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility in the built environment.

The event offered a valuable opportunity for members to learn, connect, and explore how thoughtful material choices can drive meaningful change in the industry.

Held at R & Company’s Tribeca gallery, the presentation took place in a striking setting known for its expertly curated exhibitions of contemporary and historical design from the 20th and 21st centuries.

"Beyond Zero" Screening during NYCxDESIGN

ASID NY Metro's Health, Wellness, and Sustainability Committee organized a special VIP screening of Beyond Zero at the historic Angelika Theater East during this year’s NYCxDESIGN Festival. The powerful documentary chronicles the inspiring true story of Interface Flooring’s CEO and his ambitious mission to eliminate the company’s negative environmental impact—proving that business can be a force for reversing climate change.

Following the screening, guests stayed for a thought-provoking conversation on design’s role in shaping a sustainable future. The panel featured Joey Shea, Manager of North American Sustainability at Interface; Michelle Jacobson, 2024 Metropolis Planet Positive Interior Design Educator of the Year and Principal at DesignGLXY Group; Price Latimer, CCO and Co-Founder of Alkemis Paint; and Tolga Onur, Architectural & Design Representative at Vermont Quarries. The discussion was expertly moderated by Maria Lomanto, Healthy Materials Advocate, Founding Principal of DesignGLXY Group, and Past President of ASID NY Metro.

The event sparked meaningful dialogue around regenerative practices, material health, and the collective responsibility of the design community in addressing the climate crisis. Many thanks to the Architecture and Design Festival (ADFF), Interface, Vermont Quarries, and Alkemis Paint for making it all possible!
