How necessary it is for us to understand the value of all forms of prayer! The scriptures for the 24th Sunday in Ordinary time (last week) speak of three different aspects of prayer: interceding, repentance, and seeking God.
BUT be careful what you pray for!
For many years, I struggled to practice my Catholic faith. I went confession before Easter one year and the priest gave me a penance activity that would require me to actually pray, every day! I did not know then, but the act of following the rubric for prayer given to me by this priest was exactly what I needed to re-learn how to pray and to re-orient my life!
I say, be careful because as I learned to pray, it became obvious that I did not know how or what to pray for. But as I tried, the Holy Spirit began to form my prayers into those that God had for me. And things happened! Things I never would have expected!
The Scriptures give us examples of different attitudes of prayer. The Mass is our act of worship! In the Scriptures, Moses intercedes for his people. This is what God wanted for Moses, that yearning for the good of all! Paul repents of his sinful past as an example of humility. His words of honesty
