Local parish extends invitations during Sunday livestream
St. David's Church invites Sunday livestream worshipers
to upcoming parish events. Is this something you might do?
St. David's Episcopal Church in Wilmington creates an event slide show (see video below) and places it in their Sunday livestream worship feed at least ten minutes prior to the beginning of their Sunday worship service (sound off). Even if the the livestream program is not clicked/opened, viewers would see the 'invitation' graphics as they are scrolling through their Facebook feed. It is an invitation to all who are viewing or just simply 'scrolling' by.

The attractive event graphics (above) are created through an easy-to-use software called, Canva. This software is free, provides nice graphics, allows users without design experience to create amazing visual content, and sizes each piece to fit your needs, e.g., livestream, Facebook, Instagram, etc. If you do not currently use Canva, it is worth checking out at www.canva.com. If you need any guidance with Canva or other graphic design ideas, we can help. Contact [email protected].
In this video, view an excerpt from the livestream of St. David's Sunday worship service, showing the parish events that are displayed prior to the start of their service.

Lenten Offerings

Episcopal Relief & Development's
Lenten offerings on the theme:
"Who is my neighbor?"
According to The Book of Common Prayer, Lent provides us with the opportunity for self-examination, repentance, prayer, fasting and self-denial; and to read and meditate on God’s holy word (BCP, p 265).
This Lenten Season, Episcopal Relief & Development invites you to join us as we meditate on the commandment to love our neighbor and consider the meaning of this fundamental instruction in our daily lives.

The Rev. Robin Denney, a parish priest and former missionary focused on agricultural development in Liberia and South Sudan, wrote this year’s meditations. Robin’s reflections are poignant and personal and challenge the reader to consider the question, “Who is my neighbor?”

Join us on your Lenten journey. You can sign up to receive a meditation in your inbox each day, read the meditations online by visiting the links below, or download all the meditations to read and share. May God richly bless you this Lenten season.

Meeting ID: 844 1512 7190, Passcode: 973253

About the collaborative: The churches in Southern Delaware Collaborative have been gathering via Zoom for seasonal studies for Lent and Advent, praying and studying scripture as communities of faith. This has been a very successful and rewarding experience as we have formed significant relationships and had great spiritual learning together. One of the gifts of COVID was learning how to gather in new ways, and this is a great solution to sharing resources. These churches include: St. Luke's, Seaford; St. Mary's, Bridgeville; St. Stephen's, Harrington; Christ Church, Milford; St. Paul's, Georgetown; St. Phillips, Laurel; and All Saints, Delmar.
Is your parish offering a Lenten Study that you would like to share with everyone? If so, please let us know and we will spread the word. [email protected]
Invitation to join
Disaster Preparedness Team

by the Rev. Deacon Larry Norfleet
Welcome to the almost post COVID world! Now is the time to re-energize our parish and community efforts as we move into post disaster relief stages of the COVID pandemic. One of these important parish and community efforts is disaster preparedness. Given the increasing frequency of natural disasters, it is extremely important that our parishes and communities are prepared to respond to save lives and protect property. In order to create a center of expertise for planning and leadership, the diocese is forming a Diocesan Disaster Preparedness Team. Team volunteers will be asked to attend regularly scheduled meetings. A primary mission of the team is to translate best practices developed by Episcopal Relief and Development and FEMA for use within our parishes and communities. This team of volunteers will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our community and its citizens in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
If you have an interest in joining our disaster preparedness team, please contact us at [email protected] or 302.602.0969.

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Together, we can make a real difference in the safety and security of our parishes and community. For more detail on disaster preparedness check out the diocesan webpage Disaster Preparedness.
Watch for it ... New for Delaware Communion Magazine

Episcopalians telling their story — a four-part series:
My Journey in the Episcopal Church
A new four-part series titled, My Journey in the Episcopal Church, will debut in the Delaware Communion beginning with the March edition of the magazine. These personal reflections from Delaware Episcopalians will tell their story as they faced (and continue to experience) particular challenges of acceptance and inclusion.

First, the Rev. Louise Howlett will talk about her experience as one of the first female priests ordained in Delaware. This article will be printed in the Spring edition and published on International Women's Day, March 8. March is also Women's History Month. In June, when Pride Month is celebrated, Joseph Davison will tell his story about being a gay man in the Episcopal Church. He and his husband, Phillip, were the first gay couple to have their union blessed in the Episcopal Church in Delaware. The Rev. Stacey Carpenter will share her story of recovery in the Fall edition, which is published in September when National Recovery Month is observed. The winter edition will feature a story from Cynthia Primo Martin who will pen her journey as a Black woman growing up in this diocese. This edition encompasses Martin Luther King, Jr. day on January 15 and Black History Month in February.

John Donne's Last Sermon
On this date in 1631, John Donne, arguably one of the greatest love poets of the English language and dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, preached his last sermon entitled “Death’s Duel.” “We celebrate our own funeral with cries, even at our birth,” he preached. Seemingly obsessed with the subject, 32 of his surviving 54 songs and sonnets are about death.
