The Commission on Ministry in the Episcopal Church in Delaware is providing a second opportunity to find out more about the process of training lay licensed worship leaders and lay preachers.

On Saturday, February 25, 1:00 p.m., Grace Church,Wilmington, Dr. Sarah Stonsifer Boylan from the Stevenson School will provide an overview of the training program.

Fran Taccone has a lifetime career in nutrition services, community development, and higher education at home and abroad. She was born in Erie, PA and baptized at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in North East, PA. She was confirmed at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Clearfield, PA where she first learned about the global mission of the Anglican Church. After studying human nutrition and food science at Penn State and the University of Delaware (UD) she developed a global passion for prevention and health. She believes that nutrition is the foundation of health, and everyone has a right to healthy food and healthcare. During her academic career at UD, she served as the special assistant to the Provost for International Programs responsible for expanding programs in Panama, Costa Rica, and Bulgaria. In 1991 she was selected by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation/Partners of the Americas to become a Fellow in International Development in the Americas. In 1998 she completed her PhD in Political Science and International Relations with a focus on family and public policy. She is currently a member of St. Nicholas’ Episcopal Church in Newark, Delaware where she serves as the evangelism commissioner and volunteer community garden coordinator. She has served as a development officer for the Produce for Better Health Foundation, Nemours Health and Prevention Services and the Food Bank of Delaware. She is a founding board member and chair emeritus of Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids, Inc. the Delaware school garden experts. She currently practices integrative and functional medical nutrition therapy with United Medical, LLC, and the Christiana Institute for Advanced Surgery (CHRIAS).

We welcome anyone who wants to worship and study with us on Wednesday evenings, 7 – 8:15pm during the month of March, via Zoom. Watch for it ... New for Delaware Communion Magazine

A new four-part series titled, My Journey in the Episcopal Church, will debut in the Delaware Communion beginning with the March edition of the magazine. These personal reflections from Delaware Episcopalians will tell their story as they faced (and continue to experience) particular challenges of acceptance and inclusion.

First, the Rev. Louise Howlett will talk about her experience as one of the first female priests ordained in Delaware. This article will be printed in the Spring edition and published on International Women's Day, March 8. March is also Women's History Month. In June, when Pride Month is celebrated, Joseph Davison will tell his story about being a gay man in the Episcopal Church. He and his husband, Phillip, were the first gay couple to have their union blessed in the Episcopal Church in Delaware. The Rev. Stacey Carpenter will share her story of recovery in the Fall edition, which is published in September when National Recovery Month is observed. The winter edition will feature a story from Cynthia Primo Martin who will pen her journey as a Black woman growing up in this diocese. This edition encompasses Martin Luther King, Jr. day on January 15 and Black History Month in February.

The Christ Church Choristers will be joined by a small ensemble from the Christ Church Choir to sing Evensong for the Last Sunday after the Epiphany on February 19 at 4 PM in the Chapel. Music will include works by Tallis and Dyson. An organ prelude will begin at 3:50 PM. These services on third Sundays are part of our celebration of the Chapel’s 70th anniversary and the blessing of our new chapel organ, Fisk Opus 164. More information

Registration open for 2023 Episcopal Youth Event “Regreso a Casa: A New Age of Faith.”

The Episcopal Church Youth Ministries Office announces open registration for delegations of young people and chaperones planning to attend the Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) July 4-8 at the University of Maryland in College Park. Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023, EYE is the church’s second-largest event after General Convention, drawing nearly 1,500 young people ages 15-19 from every province every three years. Attendees participate as part of a delegation, which can be from a diocese or coordinated through a congregation, school, or other Episcopal organization. More information
