Last Friday night, June 20, about 140 Episcopalians from across the diocese came together at Frawley Stadium for our Holy Obi-Wan Kenobi Parish Picnic at the Blue Rocks game — and what a night it was! With parishes large and small represented, the event was a joyful celebration of community, connection, and good old-fashioned baseball fun. From catching foul balls to crushing ballpark snacks, we cheered, laughed, and celebrated being one church, one community — together in faith and fun
And yes… Bishop Kevin S. Brown brought the heat with the first pitch! (click image to view)
Kristin Sauseville, a parishioner from St. Thomas’s, Newark, shared this reflection on the experience:
“My family was so excited to attend the Blue Rocks game with our friends from around the diocese! We had been to several Blue Rocks games over the years, but never as part of a larger group like this, and it was so fun to have that component of fellowship be part of the experience as well. The new sign by the outfield looked great and we loved the SAFE AT HOME slogan. Our parish, St. Thomas’s, had a good turnout (as did many parishes), and we enjoyed sharing a delicious picnic dinner with some of our friends from there while cheering on the bishop throwing out the first pitch, and then watching the game. We appreciated the opportunity to meet people from other parishes and even had the chance to chat with the bishop for a few minutes. And while the Blue Rocks unfortunately didn’t quite pull off the win, the game was competitive all the way through to the end. Looking forward to the next one!”
We’re grateful to everyone who came and, as requested by many, we are looking forward to the 2nd annual picnic at the Blue Rocks.
The energy, laughter, and fellowship shared across the Off Centered Fan Deck were true expressions of what it means to be one church in Delaware.
Until next time — may the Force be with you!
