On This Date in Christian History
On this date in 335 CE, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was consecrated in Jerusalem. The Church now stands over two holy sites. The great basilica or Martyrium encloses the traditional site of Calvary in one corner. Across the way, the Anastasis ("Resurrection") encloses the cave tomb of Jesus’s burial. The magnificent wooden doors of the church’s main entrance are still the original doors from 326 CE. More information

On this date in 1635, the Massachusetts General Court banished Roger Williams for his advocacy of separation of church and state. He went on to found Rhode Island and the first Baptist church in the American colonies. Freed from the constraints of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, he put his ideas about separation of church and state, land policy, and friendly relations with the Narragansett Indians into practice.
