Over the course of the year, the Council hosted 52 in-person events throughout the region and in Washington, D.C. This includes Capitol Hill Reports with members of Congress, Politics & Eggs programs with presidential candidates, discussions with the region’s governors, and policy forums on topics including climate change, the blue economy, behavioral health, and affordable housing. Visit the Past Events page on our website for a detailed list of 2023 events or watch this video for some highlights. 

Through our various policy committees and cross-sector working groups, the Council worked with our members throughout 2023 to advocate for federal policies that will support continued economic growth in the region. Our policy committees and working groups also continued to be forums for information sharing among our members, convening conversations on important policy topics and hosting guest speakers to keep our members informed on key policy developments in Washington, D.C.

The Council was fortunate to see significant membership retention and growth in 2023. Over the course of the year, we were pleased to welcome 80 new members, representing a wide array of industries in all six New England States. By year’s end, the Council was proud to count 630 businesses and organizations as members. 

Over 200 Council members from throughout the region gathered in Washington, D.C., in May 2023 for our Washington Leaders’ Conference. During two days of meetings, briefings, and receptions, conference participants had the opportunity to network with fellow Council members across an array of industries, and to connect with members of Congress, Congressional staff, and other key federal policymakers. The Council’s 2023 Annual Celebration was held on the evening of October 26, 2023, in Boston. With some 1,800 guests from throughout the six New England states joining us, it was the largest and most successful Annual Celebration in the Council’s history. We honored four remarkable New Englanders of the Year for their contributions to the region, and celebrated the Council’s achievements over the course of the year. Visit the Annual Celebration page on our website to learn more about the honorees and sponsors, or watch this highlight video.   

In early 2023, the Council re-launched our Inside the Corner Office program – previously offered as a virtual event – as a monthly podcast and YouTube series. The series features monthly virtual conversations with the chief executive of an NEC member company or organization. NEC President & CEO Jim Brett serves as the moderator of these programs, which aim to introduce leaders from throughout the region to a broad audience of NEC members across an array of industries.
