Ten years after Pope Francis issued a document on families, Pope Leo XIV will meet with bishops from around the world to discuss the text’s application for today.
Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation on marriage and the family, followed two contentious synods at the Vatican dominated by debate over divorce.

My dear friends, at this time I speak of hope, healing, and our shared commitment to the dignity of every person who suffers. In his Message for the World Day of the Sick 2026, Pope Leo XIV reminded us that love is not passive: “Being a neighbor is not determined by physical or social proximity, but by the decision to love.” Behind every medical diagnosis is a person: a mother managing her condition while raising children, an elderly neighbor choosing between medicine and food, a young adult facing a lifetime of vigilance. They are the face of Christ. The Good Samaritan did not merely feel pity. He stopped, acted, and enlisted others. May you always be animated by courage, compassion, and love. And may the Holy Spirit, source of all purity of heart, communicate it to you through the cross, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
