Message from Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS
| | | The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes invites us to reflect on the profound maternal care and intercession of Mary, our Mother. This feast not only commemorates the apparitions of Our Blessed Mother to Saint Bernadette in 1858, but also emphasizes her role as a source of hope and healing for all who seek her intercession. Reflecting on the message of Lourdes, many have experienced the healing and comfort that comes through the intercession of Our Lady. I know of many, I am sure you do also who, during times of illness or strife, turned to Mary in prayer. Let us encourage one another to seek the intercession of Mary in our daily lives, especially during times of suffering and uncertainty. In moments of despair, let us remember that we are not alone; our Mother is always there, interceding for us and guiding us toward the light of Christ. May we allow Mary’s role as our Mother and intercessor deepen in our lives. She embodies the comfort and hope that God promises to His people. Let us carry the message of Lourdes in our hearts, trusting in Mary’s intercession and guidance. May we always turn to her in prayer, asking for her protection and maternal care. Let us pray: “Our Lady of Lourdes, guide us and intercede for us, that we may always seek your Son, Jesus, with faith and love.”

Jubilee Mass for Family Evangelization and Catechesis | February 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Church in Pleasanton
|
Join Auxiliary Bishop Mike Boulette for a Mass for Family Evangelization and Catechesis at St. Andrew Church in Pleasanton (directions) celebrating faith, hope, and the call to discipleship as pilgrims of hope. A special invitation goes out to all families, catechists, and volunteers in faith formation.
St. Andrew in Pleasanton, a vibrant Catholic community, is one of the 23 designated pilgrimage sites in the archdiocese, to which the faithful are invited to visit between now and Jan. 6, 2026. A mission church (Mission of Loire) dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua, was built just east of the Pleasanton City Hall near the Atascosa River. The ranch lands of the Old Spanish Missions stretched along the banks of the San Antonio River and its tributaries. Many settlements grew up in the course of time, and St. Andrew’s Parish in Pleasanton, 33 miles south of San Antonio, is in this territory. It was not a new parish, but rather the new headquarters of the old Loire-Las Gallinas-North Pleasanton Parish which, until 1946, had its headquarters at Loire. There was a tremendous flood that overflowed the banks of the Atascosa River and damaged the church building. The small frame church building was moved a short distance away to what was North Pleasanton, repaired, and the name changed to St. Andrew.

The luminous witness of lay faithful shone brightly on February 3 as Lumen Gentium and Christifideles Laici award recipients gathered at St. Mark the Evangelist Church to be honored for their diligent service and heartfelt dedication as beacons of God’s mercy by the archbishop.
St. George Maronite Catholic Church observed its 100-year anniversary celebration with a Divine Liturgy on February 9 in which the presider was Bishop Elias Zaidan of the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles. Immediately after the Mass a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a statue garden to commemorate the centennial. The parish has commissioned Lebanese sculptor Nayef Alwan to create a statue of St. George of Lebanese white stone that will be placed in front of the church. A plaza with bricks and landscaping will decorate the site. The parish is also selling custom-engraved bricks to build the plaza.
