In Magnifica Humanitas pope invokes justice to combat antihuman vision in AI

In his encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, published May 25, Pope Leo XIV calls on society and AI developers to implement “shared standards of social justice” in order for artificial intelligence to respect human dignity and serve the common good.

Message from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

In the beginning, God breathed. From that first divine breath, a human being came alive — dust transformed into a dwelling for the living God. And on the feast of Pentecost, we hear that breath again: the rush of wind filling the house, tongues of fire resting on each person, and then Jesus — risen, standing among His frightened disciples — breathing on them, saying: Receive the Holy Spirit. Every Pentecost is an invitation to breathe differently. Notice what that breath accomplishes. It does not create uniformity. The breath of God never flattens; it harmonizes. It gathers the scattered fragments of humanity into a living body. And yet breath does something more personal than unite. When Jesus breathes on the disciples, locked behind closed doors in their fear, He is performing a new act of creation — echoing the moment God breathed life into the clay in Eden. What had withered in guilt and grief and grief-turned-cowardice is now, in that single exhalation of the Risen Lord, made alive again. The breath that creates is also the breath that heals. We are breathing that same breath right now. We are not spectators of Pentecost. We are its continuation. The Church is alive whenever she breathes outward. She grows fragile when she holds her breath in self-preservation. Come, Holy Spirit, and renew the face of the earth — beginning here, beginning now, beginning with the air that moves between us.

Pope Leo XIV recently offered the Church a sentence worth carrying with us: "The quality of human life is not dependent on achievement. The quality of our lives is dependent on love." Tomorrow, we will live those words together at St. Luke Church (directions). Archbishop Gustavo will preside at a sensory-friendly liturgy with softer music, shorter readings, and a calm, welcoming space for people with disabilities, their families, and their caregivers. Come as you are. Bring what helps you feel at home. There is still time to RSVP, but it isn’t necessary to join us.

The Eucharist Sends Us Out as Missionaries of Hope Archdiocesan Feast of Corpus Christ Mass and Eucharistic Procession

Saturday, June 6, at 5 p.m., at San Fernando Cathedral

The Eucharist and service are not separate things. The Catechism teaches that Eucharistic worship forms the faithful for mission in the world (CCC 1396). When Archbishop Gustavo preached at the Feast of Corpus Christi celebration two years ago, he reminded us that our external acts of devotion must always reflect an interior disposition of love. The Eucharist empowers us to see Christ in the suffering of others: the stranger, the migrant, and the marginalized. The logic is simple and demanding. We cannot give what we have not received. We cannot carry Christ into our homes, our workplaces, and our neighborhoods if we have not first knelt before him and allowed him to shape us. In this sense, the procession begins long before we step onto the street. It begins in the quiet where we first said yes to the One who is always saying yes to us.

Join us at the Vigil Mass at 5 p.m. at San Fernando Cathedral (directions), followed by the largest Eucharistic procession through downtown. After the procession, enjoy a live concert of faith by GMA Dove Award-nominated contemporary Christian singer, songwriter, and Catholic worship leader Sarah Kroger.
