The Holy See | Pope Leo XIV

Who is the patron saint of Pope Leo XIV final vows

Pope Leo XIV’s profound devotion to St. Nicholas of Tolentine not only reveals his Augustinian roots but also the soul of a pastor who, like the 13th-century saint, consoles, prays, and walks humbly alongside his people.

Message from Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS

Most Rev. Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

On Memorial Day, we gathered to pray to God, Father of mercy, for the eternal rest of those who gave their lives for the freedom and dignity of peoples, and to renew our commitment to preserving peace and justice in the world. We pray that the Lord may grant leaders and each of us the courage of the Holy Spirit, capable of bearing witness in the midst of the storm. Let us renew our hope in the life that springs from the Cross and the Resurrection and let us learn from the martyrs who died with the name of Jesus on their lips, as witnesses to the full truth, to the Love who redeems. Let us follow this path of daily martyrdom, denouncing all forms of violence that sow hatred. The missionary Church is present when we pray to receive the light of the Holy Spirit, when we bring the message of reconciliation to those in need. May our prayer for peace and justice be the fruit of an open heart, always ready to build bridges and embody the truth that liberates.

Local Mayoral Elections: No Endorsement, Just Principles

Early Voting May 27–June 3

The upcoming San Antonio mayoral runoff election is on Saturday, June 7, with early voting from May 27 to June 3. This election will determine our city's leadership for the next four years. As Catholics, we are called to bring our faith into public life. The Church doesn’t tell us who to vote for—but She does call us to vote according to Gospel values.

Your vote affects your neighbors so let’s choose leaders who promote human dignity and care for the poor and vulnerable. Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom. Pray for candidates and voters alike. Faithful citizenship starts with prayer. Participate in the upcoming election with prayer, reflection, and a well-formed conscience.

Archbishop Gustavo invites you to celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost at Holy Spirit Church (directions). Pentecost marks the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Mary and the Apostles — a feast often referred to as the birthday of the Church.

Another aspect of Pentecost is the symbolism of unity in diversity. The story in Acts describes how people from various nations and language groups heard the apostles preaching in their own languages — highlighting the universality of the Church and its mission to reach people of all cultures and backgrounds.

Share the sacramental presence of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion so that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we may continue to walk united in Christ. As we gather to worship, we anticipate a transformative experience of the Holy Spirit's presence among us.

Prayer for Priests and Their Communities in Transition

aa87de1c-50fe-442f-9a0b-50c24effeb36 image

The life of a priest is full of change: ordination, receiving their first parish assignment, assignments to new parishes or ministries and, eventually, retirement. All these changes are accepted by them as part of their vocation and promise of obedience.

On July 1, some of our priests will transition to a new parish. This period of transition will be a time for growth, rooted in their call to serve God’s people in our Archdiocese. Let us pray for our priests’ physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being, and welcome them into our communities with joy.
