MESSAGE FROM
Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS
| |
|
Although God requires us to trust him completely and without hesitation, he knows very well that we need human closeness. That is why he also made us capable of comforting each other. Before going up to the Father, Jesus promises that he will send another Advocate. He is referring to the Holy Spirit, from whom we receive all the love of which we are capable. He is the Love between the Father and the Son,
whom both share with us from heaven. If we believe in Him, long for Him to come to us, and ask him to come, He will strengthen our faith, give us comforting hope, and increase our love of God and neighbor. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to come to us, to enlighten our intelligence with his gift of wisdom and our strength with his gift of fortitude. Let us open our hearts so that he may renew in us the joy and the
meaning of life. He is the freedom of the heart which no one can take away from us, and which gives us enthusiasm, hope and courage.

Last week the archdiocesan Department of Catholic Schools held a STEM night at the St. Gerard Education and Athletic Center to showcase the Starbase Kelly 2.0 After-School Program. Students from schools across the archdiocese taught attendees how to make slime, lava lamps, harmonicas ball art and marshmallow towers. They demonstrated toy cars powered by balloons, snap circuits, and more. Starbase Kelly staff launched Rockets from the field and CPS Energy gave a live presentation showing the power of electricity. We are proud of the students who participated, and looking forward to next year’s program. While this year’s program has ended, the Department of Catholic Schools is offering a one-week STEM-based Robotics camp, and one week of Starbase Kelly 2.0 at St. Gerard this summer. Enrollment is now open, and is open to all students within the greater San Antonio area, regardless of school attending. To enroll in our Summer programs through the Department of Catholic Schools, visit www.stgerardsa.org/summer-programs.
Archbishop Gustavo celebrated a belated Mother’s Day liturgy on May 18 for women incarcerated at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. The archbishop told attendees, “We all know that there is only one perfect mon, the mother of Jesus. That is why He Himself wanted us to lack nothing of these features of God’s tenderness, which we only know through Mary. She is our mother who never fails us.”
