Pope Francis: Sharing our encounter with Christ makes our encounters ‘even more beautiful’

Pope Francis expressed his concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East following Iran’s missile attack Saturday against Israel, a concern he raised after imploring Christians to share their stories of encountering Christ, which he said would create a richer and more beautiful environment for all.
Message from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS
|
Like the first Christian communities, we must develop endurance against discouragement, through an attitude of trust in the power of the Holy Spirit. The fruits and the growth of the community of disciples depend on Him. Only through that trust can we persevere with joy in our proclamation. We must be aware of the current context of transition between eras, when the references which give meaning to life and order to coexistence have been lost. Our first task is to be a reference of light in the midst of darkness and of flavor among so much bitterness that the flock suffers. We must be what we want to find! We must fully live our identity, finding in our filial support to Pope Francis, the greatest assurance of fidelity to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Call for volunteers: Bring Jesus to those in need in hospitals
|
There are many members of our community who are in hospitals and unable to attend Mass. Volunteers in Hospital Ministry bring the presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and by doing so offer a beautiful service of charity and companionship. Our members of the Body of Christ need volunteers in hospitals to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. All hospitals in the Archdiocese of San Antonio need volunteers to tend to the spiritual care of the sick. If you feel called to this ministry, visit the Hospital Ministry webpage or contact Lauren Stadelman at (210) 734-1632 or lauren.stadelman@archsa.org to learn more.

Many know Ferrero Rocher for its popular hazelnut chocolates, but the company’s tie to Our Lady of Lourdes is lesser known.
Michele Ferrero, the company’s founder and a devout Catholic, had a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and wanted to honor her through his work. It is reported that he named his company “Rocher” after the rock grotto, the Rocher de Massabielle, which marks the location where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette in Lourdes, France.

“Love God's Will” is the true story of a young priest in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, Father Ryan Stawaisz. After graduating from Texas A&M University as a petroleum engineer with a promising career ahead of him, he felt God was calling him to the priesthood. A year before his ordination, Ryan was diagnosed with cancer, and his desire became not only to DO God’s will, but to LOVE God’s will. Despite his battle with cancer, Father Ryan remained steadfast in his desire to serve others and to share the love of Christ with everyone who crossed his path. His public ministry lasted a brief three years; but, Father Ryan’s witness continues to inspire people of all ages. Photo: Veronica Markland | Today's Catholic Newspaper

A ribbon-cutting and blessing event was held April 12 for the grand re-opening of St. John Hall at Assumption Seminary. Jennifer Rodriguez, director of Stewardship and Development for the archdiocese, expressed her gratitude to the more than 20,000 donors of the On the Way - Andale Capital Campaign, which funded the renovation work on the 50-year-old building to transform it into a state-of-the-art center of pastoral education and formation.
