Feast Day: St. Gregory of Nyssa
Gregory of Nyssa was born into a deeply religious family. His mother, Emmelia, was the daughter of a martyr, and two of his brothers, Basil of Cæsarea and Peter of Sebaste, became bishops like himself. His eldest sister, Macrina, became a model of piety and is also honored as a Saint. It would seem that the young Gregory married at some point: there exists a letter addressed to him by Gregory of Nazianzus condoling him on the loss of a woman named Theosebeia, who must have been his wife and is venerated as a Saint in the Orthodox faith.
The Holy See: Pope Francis
Pope Francis reflects on three verbs to guide the faithful
Photo: Antoine Mekary | ALETEIA
"May we learn to care for every child born of a woman, above all by protecting, like Mary, the precious gift of life: life in the womb, the lives of children, the lives of the suffering, the poor, the elderly, the lonely and the dying," he said in his homily during Mass in St. Peter's Basilica Jan. 1.
Message from Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS
| | | We are children of God. This is no petty detail. Truly acknowledging this reality transforms how we live and see the world. To be a child of God is to live in the knowledge of His unconditional love. It means that we are no longer defined by our failures, sins, or shortcomings. Instead, we are defined by the love of the Father, who sent His Son to save us. Our identity as God’s children is both a gift and a call — a call to live in holiness, love, and truth. Our lives should reflect the love, humility, and mercy of Jesus. When others see our actions, they should be able to say, “Christ is with them.” We live in a world where sin often feels overwhelming, where many ignore or reject God’s presence. Yet, we are not alone in this journey. God has given us His Spirit, a Spirit that empowers us to live as His children, to resist sin, and to bring His light to others. As we continue this Christmas season, let us remember the joy and responsibility of being children of God. And let us resolve to live each day in a manner that testifies to His presence in our lives. May the grace of Christmas inspire us to share His love with a world in need, bearing witness to the truth that we are God’s beloved children.

Jubilee Year 2025: Pilgrims of Hope
|
The Archdiocese of San Antonio’s joy to celebrate the Jubilee Year 2025 stems from the profound spiritual, communal, and evangelizing opportunities it presents. This Jubilee is seen as a chance to renew faith, foster unity, promote mercy, and participate in a global celebration that connects the local Church with the broader Catholic community worldwide.
Like many other dioceses around the world, we are enthusiastic about celebrating the Jubilee Year 2025, as proclaimed by Pope Francis, for several important reasons:
| |
-
Spiritual Renewal and Reinvigoration: Deepening faith with an emphasis on mercy and reconciliation
-
Encouraging Pilgrimage and Unity: Traveling to pilgrimage sites near or far in unison with the global tradition
-
Celebrating the Universal Church: Reflecting on the universality of the Catholic Church and our shared history
-
Evangelization and Outreach: Reaching to those who have left the Church or who may be marginalized
-
Local Cultural and Religious Significance: Embracing our rich history and cultural heritage to engage Catholics and the broader community meaningfully

Southwest Liturgical Conference Study Week | February 5–8 | Victoria, TX
|
This year’s Study Week theme is inspired by Gaudium et Spes, the Second Vatican Council’s “Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World,” which was promulgated 60 years ago. In it, the Church is called to have reverence for every person without exception and to see every neighbor as another self (GS 27). Each keynote and workshop presentation looks to explore how these urgent principles of the Council 60 years ago are incorporated today in the way we celebrate liturgy, catechize the faithful, initiate Christians, build and adorn our worship spaces, and serve the People of God. Early-bird pricing ends January 15.
