| |  | The Kingdom grows whenever we learn to see people as God sees them. The Lord wants to invite everyone to His table.That lesson is especially important. We live in a world that often reduces people to labels. Add understanding rather than suspicion. Add encounter rather than distance. Add mercy rather than judgment. God’s saving plan is never a story of shrinking the table; it is the story of preparing more places. As Catholics, one of the ways the Lord confirms us in this faith is through our communion with the Holy Father. United with Pope Leo XIV, we remember that the Church is catholic, universal. We are the universal assembly gathered around the bishop, in communion with Peter, to celebrate the Paschal mysteries of the Son of God made man. The table of the Lord is not built by division but by communion. As Pope Leo recently wrote, “truth is not a territory to be defended, but a good to be shared.” When we remain united to Peter, we learn to share that truth with confidence, charity, and humility. The Incarnate Word leads us to the table of the Eucharist. Here the Lord does not offer crumbs. He gives Himself. People of every nation are invited to the feast of the Lord Jesus. So make room at the table. Listen to someone before judging them. Welcome someone who feels unseen. Speak a word that builds communion. Let your faith become a place where another person can find hope. And may Our Lady of Guadalupe, who gathered a people into one family around her Son, teach us to make room at His table.
| | "I will not abandon you. The Church will not abandon you. We will come to you." Those words belong to Archbishop Gustavo, and they are spoken to every family in the archdiocese living in fear. He wrote them in his new Pastoral Letter titled, “We Will Come to You: United in Solidarity with Our Brothers and Sisters in Migration” issued August 3 at San Fernando Cathedral in the centennial year of San Antonio’s elevation to a metropolitan archdiocese. The letter is addressed to the more than one million Catholics of our local Church and to all people of good will. It offers a roadmap of dignity, welcome, and accompaniment for every parish, school, and home. As summer draws toward its close, we give thanks for the miles traveled and the moments shared. Before he ascended, Jesus told his friends, “You will be my witnesses, to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Your family has lived that calling in a small and faithful way this summer, carrying Christ into parks, pools, and pews across the archdiocese and beyond.
