Pope Leo XIV encouraged young astronomy students at the Vatican in mid-June to “be generous in sharing what you learn and what you experience, as best you can and however you can.”
“Surely, this must be an exciting time to be an astronomer,” Pope Leo said to scholars at the Vatican on June 16. The students gathered as part of a monthlong astronomy and astrophysics summer school program hosted by the Vatican Observatory.

| | | I would like to share some reflections on our prayer for vocations — those called to serve God’s harvest — and particularly on lay ecclesial ministers who, like the first disciples, teach, shepherd, and heal in Christ’s name. The heart of our vocation prayer is not merely asking God for workers but committing ourselves to seek and support those He calls, men and women who will stand among the people, proclaiming the Gospel in word and deed. Committed missionary disciples build up the community by coordinating catechesis, guiding prayer groups, visiting the sick, and forming disciples. In prayerful solidarity, we recognize that lay ministers pioneer fresh expressions of ministry, responding to emerging needs in our parishes, schools, and social outreach. Let us ask the Lord of the harvest to raise up men and women of prayer and service: catechists who spread the light of Scripture; pastoral coordinators who foster communion; pastoral musicians who lift hearts to heaven; and all lay ministers who enrich the Body of Christ. May our persistent prayer yield abundant workers, each bearing Christ’s light to our world.

Continued Assistance Supporting
the Hill Country
| | |
We are deeply grateful to all the pastors and parish communities for your compassionate response to the devastating floods in the Hill Country. Your generosity and mercy toward those affected reflects the heart of the Gospel and the mission of the Church in times of crisis.
Catholic Charities of San Antonio sincerely appreciates all physical items donated in support of their Emergency Disaster Services. However, monetary donations are especially appreciated at this time.
As the situation continues to evolve—with recovery and family reunification efforts still underway—monetary donations allow for greater flexibility to help meet the most immediate and specific needs of those impacted.
Help us continue to assist those impacted by this tragedy by donating today. In addition, find resources to promote support and provide spiritual accompaniment on the website.

Spotlight on San Fernando Cathedral
| | |
The new Sacred Space Virtual Tour from El Camino de San Antonio Missions is narrated by KENS 5 anchor and reporter Alicia Neaves. The tour pairs engaging commentary with on-screen images accessible via QR code on the pilgrim-passport stamp stand inside (or just outside) each church.
The spiritual heart of San Antonio, San Fernando Cathedral has welcomed worshippers since 1750 when the original church was completed. The original church walls were incorporated into the sanctuary of the current cathedral in 1872, making it the oldest continuous functioning cathedral in the United States. While not a mission, San Fernando was intricately connected to all the missions which fell under its authority in 1824. Eleven points of interest reveal its layered past including a plaque imbedded in the sanctuary floor that marks the official center of San Antonio. Learn more here about our beautiful cathedral.
| | Catholic Television of San Antonio | | SA News had a conversation with KENS 5 Chief Meteorologist Bill Taylor about his personal faith and how he shares that faith on air with his viewers, especially during the recent tragedy in Kerrville and surrounding areas of the Hill Country. | | The chapel at CHRISTUS Westover Hills Hospital reopened its doors July 7 after being closed during recent expansion. This sacred space was restored thanks to the efforts, prayers, and support of many doctors, nurses, chaplains, staff, and volunteers. The first-floor chapel is for patients and their families to find connection, comfort, and healing. Archbishop Gustavo and Father Martin Leopold, pastor of the nearby Mary Mother of the Church Parish, celebrated the special reopening Mass. | |
