Welcome to The New Messenger, your weekly archdiocesan newsletter featuring messages from Archbishop Gustavo, news briefs, event previews, and updated information. The Archdiocese of San Antonio's weekly newsletter is published every Friday morning. | | Pope Francis said the Lenten journey reminds the Church that hope in Jesus Christ ultimately overcomes fears of fragility, weakness, and the brevity of life. | | Message from Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS | |
| | | Let us reflect on God’s boundless mercy and call to transformation. God almighty is always present, listening and acting on behalf of His people. He is the source of all goodness. He hears the cries of those who suffer and guides them toward freedom. And we can also say this about God’s relationship with us, with each one of us: He is our God! He is the God of each one of us! We are called to live our lives with integrity, humility, and love. Our everyday actions become a testimony of God’s enduring promise to guide us out of darkness and into His light. Each day, God offers us new opportunities to grow in faith, to nurture our inner life, and to produce fruits of kindness, justice, and peace. Let us, through our signs and hearts, respond to His call by living a life of hope and active love, always trusting in His guidance and mercy. May this Lent season kindle in us a renewed commitment to seek God’s face. May Our Lady of Guadalupe help our signs, gestures, and silence, powerfully express God’s transforming love, uniting our hearts as one family.

Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope | Visit Our Lady of Grace in La Coste
| | |
Our Lady of Grace in La Coste, located south of Castroville, was established in 1910. Construction began the following year, and the church was dedicated in 1911. The parish has grown from its original seventy-five families to nearly eight hundred today. The first school opened in 1913, expanded in 1920, and a parochial school, now used for faith formation, was then built and operated from 1959 to 1966. Recent renovations include new carpet, pews, and repainted statues and Stations of the Cross.
The church features beautiful stained-glass windows, new murals on the side walls of the altar, and icons (originally painted on ceiling walls) repainted on boards for easy restoration in the future.
Plan your visit to Our Lady of Grace in La Coste and learn more about the Jubilee Year of Hope.
| | Catholic Television of San Antonio | | The CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital 2025 Parade was held March 18. Since many of their patients are bound to the hospital for extended periods of time, it’s important that magical moments are brought to them. Patients watched the Dreamlight Parade from their hospital room windows as first responder vehicles and community partners lit up the night with a procession of lights and sirens. The event was part of CHRISTUS Children’s Keeping Promises campaign, an initiative that highlights their commitment to expanding care and services for the growing healthcare needs of South Texas families. | | Photo: Veronica Markland for Today's Catholic Newspaper | | Celebrated simultaneously across the nation, “Match Day” is the day that students graduating from the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM) find out where they will spend the next few years in residency. More than 100 students from the medical school were invited to Hangar 9 on the Brooks campus near the UIWSOM on March 21 to find out where they would be “matched.” The students took the stage one-by-one to announce where they are headed. There were also remarks from SOM Dean Dr. John Pham. | | GOOD NEWS! For just $18, subscribers receive 22 issues of Today's Catholic Newspaper delivered straight to their mailbox. | |
