Message from Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS

Most Rev. Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” echoed the living Word of God as Jesus stepped forward to fulfill His mission, revealing the immense love of the Father for every one of us. We are invited, through the proclamation of the mysteries of His Passion, Death, and Resurrection, to evangelize the evangelized — proclaiming our personal encounter with a Savior who conquers death and restores hope. Let our joy be rooted not in possessions, but in the loving embrace of one who walks with us, carrying our burdens as He carries the Cross. Young people among us, your voices and energy renew our mission. Your fearless testimony of faith reminds us that in Christ the heart remains forever young and full of hope. Proclaim that following Jesus is not only a joyful celebration but also a commitment to serve and transform our society. Let our prayer be a testament to our shared hope and to the enduring power of God’s love — a love so profound that it overcomes all sorrow and turns every mourning into dancing. Pope Francis has said, “There is no negotiating with the cross: one either embraces it or rejects it. By his self-abasement, Jesus wanted to open up to us the path of faith and to precede us on that path. The first to follow him on that path was his mother, Mary, the first disciple.” May the comforting embrace of Our Lady of Guadalupe convey to us her courage.

Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope

Visit San Fernando Cathedral

San Fernando Cathedral has been the center of life in San Antonio since the cornerstone was laid between 1738 and 1750. The original walls of the historic structure were incorporated into the present-day Cathedral in the 1800’s. While not a mission, this church was closely connected to all missions. As the oldest continuous functioning Cathedral in the United States, San Fernando represents the heart of San Antonio, past and present.

Pilgrims will be able to stand at the historical center of San Antonio—designated by a marker on the floor—and may also visit the sarcophagus of the Alamo heroes.

Plan your visit to San Fernando Cathedral and learn more about the Jubilee Year of Hope.

A small way to honor a big impact was how Catholic Charities described its Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, held April 12 at The Whitley Theological Center on the campus of Oblate School of Theology, recognizing the dedication of those who help serve the community in powerful and meaningful ways. Dr. Charlotte Immenschuh, chair of the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities, emceed the event, President/CEO J. Antonio Fernández presented awards, and Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, prayed the invocation.
