Message from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS | |
| | The Eucharist is fundamentally a medicine for our faith. In the same way that the body needs material food to be preserved in its existence and to repair its strength, the soul also needs spiritual food to maintain its spiritual life. By receiving the Eucharist we are nourished by the very life of Christ, the source of all grace and truth. This sacrament strengthens our faith, allowing us to live our baptismal vocation more faithfully. It is through the Eucharist that we remember our identity as children of God, loved and redeemed by the blood of Christ. Through consecration, ordinary bread becomes the extraordinary Body of Christ, a mysterious wonder that invites us to allow the Holy Spirit to deepen our faith and trust in God’s promises. By partaking of this sacred food we remember that we are not alone; we are part of the Mystical Body of Christ, united with all other believers across time and space. By partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, we participate in the communion of saints. The Eucharist allows us to foresee what we will be, uniting us with the saints and angels in a heavenly banquet that anticipates the fullness of the Kingdom of God.
