Pope writes letter on how literature educates the heart and mind

Pope Francis addresses a letter to candidates for the priesthood, but also to pastoral workers and all Christians, to underscore the “value of reading novels and poems as part of one’s path to personal maturity,” because books open up new inner spaces and help to face life and understand others.

Message from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

Most Rev. Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

Dear brothers and sisters, you are a community of diverse background, united by our shared communion in Jesus. Pope Francis has acknowledged that parish priests are well aware of the wide variety among their parishioners “since they know from within the life of God’s People, their joys and hardships, their resources and their needs. For this reason, a synodal Church needs its parish priests. Without priests, we will never be able to learn how to walk together and to set out on the path of synodality.” Good priests are always being nurtured by their flock, growing in skill and love. As a community, you are invited to join them, striving to continue building a parish where love and mercy abound.

Experience the celestial spectacle of the double solar illumination at Mission Concepción followed by Mass celebrating the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Join as we witness the annual alignment when setting sunlight passes through the church windows in a breathtaking display converging on the altar. The Franciscan Missionaries used this visual marvel and feat of engineering to honor Our Lady on the Feast of the Assumption each year. Don’t miss this fusion of theology, architecture, and astronomy! Directly following the illumination will be a special presentation at 6 p.m. by Father Dennis Schafer, OFM, as well as Mass. The doors to the church will be closed at 6:30 p.m. for a moment of silence. This event is free and open to the public. The Padre Margil Pilgrimage Center will have extended hours till 8:30 p.m. for all who wish to visit. For more information, email camino@archsa.org or call (210) 328-3939.
