Message from Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS

Most Rev. Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

Youth is often celebrated for its joy, energy, and passion. These qualities, however, are fleeting if rooted only in biological vigor. True and lasting youthfulness is spiritual — it combines the vitality of youth with the maturity of virtue, leading to genuine transformation of the world. St. Thomas Aquinas exemplifies this spiritual youth. His quest for truth was passionate, but also disciplined, grounded in prayer, and directed toward God’s glory. Young people: I hope you dream of changing the world! That is noble. But as St. Thomas shows, transformation begins with virtue — courage, humility, and love. Virtue strengthens us to reject lukewarmness, and to embrace a life of faith that is both hot with passion for good and cool with wisdom to act rightly. Let us take to heart the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you. Amen.”

This week, we highlight St. Monica Church, one of our 23 Jubilee pilgrimage sitesand a vibrant Catholic community in Converse. Known locally for the strength of its ministries, including a variety of outreach programs, the community includes a parish and an elementary and middle School. From its origins as a small parish church in 1960, it has grown to one of the most active–faith communities in the archdiocese. Known for the vitality of liturgical services, the parish warmly invites you to attend one of the Sunday or weekday Masses. The current church was erected in 1979. Along with multiple masses and extended visiting hours, St. Monica's is also hosting an on-site Pilgrimage Walk

The Oblate School of Theology (OST) hosted their annual Christian Unity Service, an official DreamWeek San Antonio 2025 event, on January 24 at the Immaculate Conception Chapel located on campus. For more than 20 years, OST has welcomed Christian denominations to come together in a special celebration of unity and worship that allows men and women to walk together in faith as one. This call to unity emphasizes the importance of affirming the Christian faith and breaking down barriers between denominations in an effort to foster a more ecumenical community. This year’s theme “We Are Neighbor” reinforced the importance of interconnectedness between Christians.
