Labor Day Holiday
| | The Pastoral Ministry Center will be closed in observance of Labor Day. | | The Holy See | Pope Leo XIV | | Pope says altar servers help lead faithful into sacred Mystery of Mass | | Pope Leo XIV met with around 360 altar servers from France on August 25, as they made a pilgrimage to Rome with their priests and bishops as part of the Jubilee Year. | | Message from Archbishop Gustavo
García-Siller, MSpS | |
| | | Pope Leo XIV has transferred Auxiliary Bishop Arturo Cepeda to the Archdiocese of San Antonio to serve as an auxiliary bishop. We are deeply grateful to the Holy Father for appointing Bishop Cepeda to us, and we are similarly grateful to Bishop Cepeda for accepting this new ministry. We are particularly glad to offer a heartfelt welcome home to Bishop Cepeda. San Antonio is where he grew up and first heard the Lord call Him and nurture his priestly vocation. Having served the Church in the upper Midwest and on numerous committees for the U.S. bishops for the past 14 years, Bishop Cepeda brings to the Archdiocese of San Antonio valuable perspectives that will assist us in our evangelization efforts to spread the Gospel with missionary zeal. On Sunday, October 12, the Archdiocese of San Antonio will officially welcome its newest auxiliary bishop when Bishop Cepeda greets the faithful at San Fernando Cathedral. I, along with Bishop Mike and Bishop Gary, priests, deacons, religious and lay faithful, will welcome Bishop Cepeda back to the archdiocese during an 8 a.m. Mass in Spanish and a 10 a.m. Mass of in English, followed by receptions. Both liturgies will be televised on Catholic Television of San Antonio. We happily welcome our new brother in ministry, Bishop Arturo!

| | Catholic Television of San Antonio | | The Feast Day of St. Rose of Lima, the patron saint and namesake of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa ministry, was observed at CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital with a Mass celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Michael Boulette on August 22. Born in Lima, Peru, in 1586, St. Rose supported her family by growing fruits, vegetables, and medicinal herbs — using them to heal and comfort the sick and poor. Throughout her life, she cared for the needy, the elderly, and homeless children, embodying a life of compassion, healing, and faith. Her example inspired the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate word to continue her legacy — extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ in the community. The Sisters celebrated the feast day with Mass, crowning of a statue of St. Rose, Peruvian food in the hospital cafeteria, music, roses for associates, and activities for children. | | Photo: Veronica Markland | St. Pius X - San Antonio, TX | | A Knights of Columbus silver rose prayer service was held at St. Pius X Church on August 18, continuing a tradition which began in 1960 when the Columbian Squires, a youth organization of the Knights, wanted to give something back to Our Lady of Guadalupe for all she had done for Mexico. The group of young men in Council 2312 in Monterrey, Mexico, came up with the idea of running a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses, an important part of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. After 1961, the program was conducted by the Knights of Texas and Mexico until the mid-1990s, when it was adopted as a Knights of Columbus Supreme Council program. Today, eight roses run along different North American routes that include Canada, every U.S. state, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and Mexico. This tradition spreads devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and embodies international brotherhood across the continent. | |
