MESSAGE FROM

Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

Thanksgiving Message 2022

Dear friends,

Pope Francis has said, “To persevere is to remain constant in goodness, especially when the reality around us urges us to do otherwise.” We are grateful for our perseverance through adversity, made possible thanks to the gifts we have received. Perseverance, the pope says, “is the reflection in the world of God’s love, because God’s love is faithful, it is persevering, it never changes.”

We offer thanks, though for so many this past three years have been a time of trial and sorrow. Yet, through the difficulties and darkness, the light of kindness, generosity, and self-sacrificing love has shown among many!

A grateful heart is a hopeful heart, and hope is the virtue which our whole society and culture needs in this time. May we be sources of hope this Thanksgiving.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK

WORLD YOUTH DAY SAN ANTONIO 2022

World Youth Day San Antonio took place on Nov. 20 at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church.

We started with Holy Hour with Adoration, Confession, Praise and Worship, and Mass celebrated by Archbishop Gustavo. Our amazing MC’s then led time with a phenomenal panel of presenters. We listened, asked questions, and discussed how God guides us each to unique paths of living our universal vocation of holiness.

After closing remarks and a blessing from Auxiliary Bishop Gary Janak, the event concluded with social time to visit with several young adult groups, seminarians, deacons, and religious community members. Thanks to all the young adults who participated with WYDSA 2022! Lastly, thank you to our amazing bishops for spending this time with young adults of the archdiocese!

RECENT NEWS

ARCHBISHOP GUSTAVO REINSTATES THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD TO THE FAITHFUL

Distribution of the Precious Blood

Archbishop Gustavo has issued a Decree reinstating the Distribution of the Precious Blood to the Faithful. This became effective on the First Sunday of Advent, November 27. He has asked that all parishes offer Holy Communion under both species. He states, “In this time of Eucharistic Renewal, we are reminded in many ways that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith.” At the Last Supper, Jesus invited his disciples to eat his Body and drink his Blood (under the signs of bread and wine) in remembrance of Him. Our faith teaches that Christ is fully present in each one of the species whether we receive one or both. Redemptionis Sacramentum, a Church document on Eucharist, tells us, “So that the fullness of the sign may be made more clearly evident to the faithful in the course of the Eucharistic banquet, lay members of Christ’s faithful, too, are admitted to Communion under both kinds.” (100) The Revised Guidelines for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are intended to bring uniformity in praxis to all parishes of the archdiocese.
