Friday of the Fourth Week of Lent / Viernes de la IV semana de Cuaresma

Los malvados dijeron entre sí, discurriendo equivocadamente:

"Tendamos una trampa al justo,

porque nos molesta y se opone a lo que hacemos;

nos echa en cara nuestras violaciones a la ley,

nos reprende las faltas contra los principios en que fuimos educados.

Presume de que conoce a Dios

y se proclama a sí mismo hijo del Señor.

Message from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

Most Rev. Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

Pope Francis has pointed out that, “the Gospel comes alive in our own day, whenever we accept the compelling witness of people whose lives have been changed by their encounter with Jesus. For two millennia, a chain of such encounters has communicated the attractiveness of the Christian adventure. The challenge that awaits us, then, is to communicate by encountering people, where they are and as they are.” Indeed, we need to find people where they are and as they are. The pope has also encouraged Catholic communicators, “not to have an introverted attitude, but rather to ‘go forth’ to bring the Christian message to every sphere of life, using the media and possibilities available today. A Church that is occupied primarily with herself sickens with self-absorption. Instead, the Church is mission, and Catholic communicators cannot but get involved…” Bring the Church closer to people, so they may more easily have an encounter with Jesus, which changes their lives.

Parish support program for Mental Health Ministry | Application Deadline: March 29

Mental health issues afflict more than one in five U.S. adults, and one in three youth or adolescents. At this important time, the Church can walk with those who are struggling in a special way. Our parishes can be welcoming homes for the people of God to be cared for, especially those who are feeling pain and experiencing brokenness. This spring, the archdiocese will invite parishes to apply for grants of up to $2,000 to support parish-based Mental Health Ministries. Parishes may use funds for training of a ministry team, gatherings, signage and hospitality, emergency preparedness materials, and any other needs that support formation or ongoing efforts for mental health ministry.

YS2024-social_Page_06-scaled image
Join us for Youth Spectacular 2024: Revealed at St. Mary’s University (1 Camino Santa Maria, SA TX 78228) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. where teens will experience the ways in which God reveals himself to us through community, prayer, service, and sacraments. The cost is $25 per person, which includes admission, lunch, dinner, and an event T-shirt. Registrations must be completed by the youth minister at your parish. Those interested in participating should contact their parish’s youth minister to register.
God is revealed in prayer. Our Catholic spirituality includes both communal and individual prayer. When we come together to pray, such as in Mass, liturgical celebrations, prayer groups, or retreats, God reveals his presence in our shared moments of prayer and contemplation. Jesus modeled a deep and intimate relationship with God the Father through His own prayer life. He often withdrew to lonely places to pray (Luke 5:16), showing His dependence on and communion with the Father in private moments.

Bocelli father and son: “Time to Say Goodbye” 30 years later

It’s been nearly 30 years since the 1995 release of Andrea Bocelli’s famed tune “Time to Say Goodbye” — or “Con te partirò” in Italian — a song that sold 12 million copies worldwide and launched the tenor’s international career. Now, as his son Matteo Bocelli wades deeper into his father’s career, the two have rerecorded the tune as a duet.

Born near Meux, France, Louise lost her mother when she was still a child, her beloved father when she was but 15.
