 |  | If we fulfill the commandments, our dignity as God’s children is manifested. This is the humility that opens our hearts to receive the gift that is poured out from the Heart of Jesus. That is the secret of complete joy and blessedness. The divine blessedness which is poured out is like a balm which anoints and spreads over the earth. The anointing of the Holy Spirit quickens, appoints, dignifies, preserves, perfumes, nourishes, strengthens, proclaims and consecrates those who belong to the Lamb. No one has greater love than the one who bears witness to the anointing which he or she has received from the Lamb. The Lord recognizes His friends because they demonstrate — with the works of God’s love — that they have been anointed with that same love. We have been called to show with our service that we have been loved first. Thus, the anointing of God’s love is poured out onto the world, revealing that we are not servants, but friends who have heard the voice of the Father. The voice of the Father is the Holy Spirit and His gifts. The initiative has not been ours. We have been destined to bear fruit, a fruit that surpasses us because it lasts forever.

A unique opportunity to learn about our history | |
Over the past year, the Department of Communications and the archdiocesan Archives have been collaborating on the publication of a history book to celebrate two significant anniversaries for the Archdiocese of San Antonio — the 150th anniversary of the creation of the diocese in 2024 and the centennial of the elevation to an archdiocese in 2026. This full-color, coffee-table size commemorative book (more than 400 pages) will feature our rich Catholic heritage and include information on each parish. This illustrated book is being produced in collaboration with renown international Catholic publishers, Éditions du Signe. David Riehl from Éditions du Signe is currently in the archdiocese during the month of October to meet with pastors and pastoral administrators. This pictorial history of the archdiocese will make a wonderful keepsake and a great reference for parishioners. This publication will be helpful in understanding our past in charting a course forward for the life of the archdiocese into the future. The archdiocese is blessed with a rich and interesting history. Additional information will be provided closer to publication. | |
We invite everyone for our Archdiocesan Rural Life Mass in celebration and prayer for those that live in our rural communities. Our farmers, ranchers and other workers are an integral part of sustaining the body of Christ in our local church. | |

The annual Blue Mass for law enforcement officers and first responders was celebrated September 29 at San Fernando Cathedral. Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, was the presider at the liturgy, with concelebrants including Father Carlos Velázquez, rector of the cathedral; Father Jimmy Drennan, pastor of St. Margaret Mary Church and a former San Antonio Police Department officer; and Father Ruben Garcia, a parochial vicar at San Fernando. The Shield of Christ and SAPD Pipe and Drum provided music, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard took part in the procession. | |
The Mass on Roses on the Solemnity of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face was celebrated at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower with the Discalced Carmelite Friars and Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, and Auxiliary Bishop Gary Janak on October 1. The liturgy concluded with the blessing of the roses. | |
