Pope Leo XIV hails missionary legacy of Fulton Sheen

Pope Leo XIV praised the missionary legacy of Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, the famed American evangelist who will be beatified September 24 in St. Louis, calling him “a light of faith, hope, and love.”

Message from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

The Most Holy Trinity is not a theological riddle to be solved; it is — so to speak — the Communion of Life in which we already dwell. We call it a mystery of faith because we are talking about the eternal omnipotent creator of the universe! He surpasses our ability to understand. In our very capacity to be, to know, and to delight — we already carry a Trinitarian signature. We are not strangers to this love; we are its living reflection. God never imposes; He invites. The Triune God does not override our freedom — He perfects it. Every time we choose forgiveness over resentment, communion over isolation, service over self-interest, we are not merely behaving well. We are becoming more fully what we already are — icons of the living God, growing into the likeness of the One whose image we bear. In the Eucharist, the Father gives the Son; the Son gives Himself entirely; the Holy Spirit draws us into that very movement of self-gift. We do not merely remember the Trinity — we are inhabited by the Triune God, we partake in God’s own life. Go, then, as people who are inhabited by love itself.

Tomorrow, Walk with Christ through Downtown: Archdiocesan Feast of Corpus Christi Mass and Eucharistic Procession

Saturday, June 6, at 5 p.m., San Fernando Cathedral

The wait is almost over. Tomorrow, thousands of Catholics from across the archdiocese will gather to celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, and then to carry Him through the streets downtown in public Eucharistic Procession. This is the heart of what it means to be a Catholic city. Our faith does not stay behind closed doors. It walks, sings, and bears witness. One hundred years after the local Church was elevated to an archdiocese, at a time when Catholics only a few hours south were persecuted during the Cristero War for doing exactly this, we take up that witness with gratitude and joy, Courageous in Christ!

Join us at 5 p.m. at the Vigil Mass at San Fernando Cathedral (directions), celebrated by Archbishop Gustavo, followed by the city’s largest Eucharistic Procession through downtown. After the procession, enjoy a live outdoor concert of faith by GMA Dove Award-nominated singer, songwriter, and Catholic worship leader Sarah Kroger.

The Heart that Already Knows Your Name

Tuesday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m., San Fernando Cathedral

6be3606b-53c3-4ac3-9751-4a3c4380e007 image

When Scripture speaks of the heart, it means something deeper than sentiment. In Biblical language, the heart is the entire interior life of a person: awareness, intelligence, memory, and freedom. It is the place where choices take shape, and life finds its direction. The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which the Church celebrates on Friday, June 12, invites us to consider that the God of the universe has turned the fullness of that kind of heart toward each of us.

Join young adults across the archdiocese at San Fernando Cathedral (directions) for Worship on the River, an evening of Adoration, Reconciliation, and fellowship built around the conviction that you are already known and already loved. Adoration begins at 6:30 p.m. A light meal and social follow at 7:30 p.m. No registration required. Come as you are and bring a friend. All young adults are welcome.

Catholic Charities has announced a new rapid response unit to provide services to remote counties and during disaster response and relief. A recent gathering provided the opportunity for a blessing with staff, volunteers, the Board of Directors, and other community leaders in attendance in a ceremony at the St. Stephen’s CARE Center May 28. The new rapid response unit is a fully equipped mobile resource designed to deliver case management, food assistance, and disaster relief services directly to communities across the archdiocese or anywhere Catholic Charities is needed. The rapid response unit will serve as a multi-purpose mobile food pantry, office, and charging station, allowing staff to provide intake services, assess client needs, and distribute essential supplies outside of Catholic Charities’ designated office locations. The unit is equipped with functional workstations, laptops, monitors, satellite Wi-Fi, and a guest internet network to support on-site services in areas with limited connectivity. The rapid response unit is also designed to operate in areas with limited or no power or internet access, ensuring Catholic Charities can continue serving vulnerable individuals and families during emergencies and times of crisis.
