On the celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, our hearts are drawn into the mystery of God’s self giving love. In the simple offering of bread and wine, Jesus fulfills His ultimate gift to us: His own Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. In the Eucharist, every time we hear the words, “This is my body … this is the cup of my blood,” we remember that we are participants in a living tradition received from the Lord Himself. This memorial is not a mere retelling of history, but an encounter with the Risen One, who continues to pour out mercy and healing for our wounds. By partaking in the Eucharist and receiving Christ’s Body and Blood, we are sent forth by the Holy Spirit to be instruments of peace and generosity. May the Eucharistic celebration deepen our communion with God and with one another. And may the grace we receive inspire us to serve the poor and vulnerable, offering our very lives in humble service, as Christ has first given Himself to us.

Spotlight on Mission Espada
| | |
San Antonio's historic missions are now more accessible than ever with the launch of the Sacred Space Virtual Tour! El Camino de San Antonio Missions has introduced a free audio-visual guide that you can launch on any smartphone.
At Mission San Francisco de la Espada, the remarkable 18th-century statue of St. Francis of Assisi stands above the altar. For many years, this statue had brown robes. But in 2014, conservators discovered that beneath the brown paint was gilding, a thin layer of gold over the wood statue. The conservator removed the brown paint and St. Francis now stands in golden brilliance. To experience the full tour, visit Mission San Francisco de la Espada today! The Mission is typically open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
