Thousands of pilgrims join Pope Leo XIV in Saint Peter Square to pray the rosary for peace

Tens of thousands of people joined Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter’s Square October 11 to pray for peace in the world.

Before the statue of Our Lady of Fatima, which was brought to Rome from Portugal for the October 11–12 Jubilee of Marian Spiritualities, the pope entrusted believers to the Mother of God to guide the Church in its “pilgrimage of hope.”

During the special prayer vigil, which included a contemplative recitation of the rosary and time for Eucharistic Adoration, the Holy Father delivered a short address and encouraged those present to ask the Mother of God for the gift of a “listening heart.”

Message from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS

My dear brothers and sisters, our hearts overflow with gratitude — gratitude for the mercy of God revealed in his Word, for the radiant witness of consecrated women and men who have given their lives to the Lord, and for the joyful arrival of Bishop Arturo Cepeda, whom our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, has appointed as auxiliary bishop of San Antonio. We welcome you, Bishop Cepeda, with love, faith, and the warmth of this local Church, which has always been your home. The fidelity of God – beyond borders, beyond wounds – is what sustains consecrated life. Our sisters and brothers in religious life embody this living word through their vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Consecrated women and men are signs of a love that crosses all frontiers. Your lives proclaim the Gospel through thanksgiving and service. You awaken the world by showing that joy is not found in possession but in surrender; that strength is not in power, but in love. You are bridges of peace, prophets of communion, and guardians of hope in a wounded world. Bishop Cepeda, you join us again in this mission – as son of this Church, teacher of the Word, and shepherd of God’s people. Your motto, “Audiendum, Fiendum, Nuntiandum” – listening, becoming, proclaiming – mirrors the path of every disciple and every consecrated person: to listen deeply, to be transformed, and to bear witness to the Lord Jesus. May the Holy Spirit renew in all of us the grace to live as grateful disciples. May our lives, like Mary’s, be a living Magnificat, proclaiming the greatness of the Lord.

World Mission Sunday: This Weekend!

A Special Message from Pope Leo XIV

“Help me help the missions” - Pope Leo XIV

World Mission Sunday is celebrated across the world this Sunday! Pope Leo has sent a special message asking Catholics everywhere to support the missions by giving generously during the second collection at all Masses this weekend of October 18-19. This World Mission Sunday, our Holy Father — the Church’s chief missionary — is asking each of us to support those proclaiming the Gospel in the 1,124 mission territories across Asia, Africa, Oceania, the Pacific Islands, and Latin America. Jesus reminds us, “Give, and it will be given to you” (Lk 6:38). Today is the day to help bring Christ’s love to the ends of the earth. Pray for missionaries, plan your offering, and be generous in this global collection of solidarity. Together, let’s help Pope Leo XIV bring Christ’s light to the ends of the earth.
