Caitlin Gainey is making waves in the scientific community!
Caitlin was recently published in
Scientific American magazine, the publication she worked with through Laguna’s Senior Project Program. Click the link below to read Caitlin’s article entitled “Racing toward Absolute Zero”—an investigative look into scientists’ quest to reach the coldest temperature possible, which is “crucial in understanding and uncovering a lot of unknowns in both quantum mechanics and physics in general.” ⠀⠀

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Caitlin as she continues her education at Yale this fall.

BACK TO BASICS: LAGUNA BLANCA WILL TURN TO FRESH FACES FOR 2019 SEASON
|
|
BY MITCHELL WHITE,
SB NEWS-PRESS STAFF WRITER
Although some of the faces have changed, the goal remains the same.
The Laguna Blanca football team will enter the 2019 season with a handful of new players, some of whom have yet to put on the shoulder pads for an actual live game. For head coach Shane Lopes, who enters his ninth season at the helm for the Owls, the next few weeks of practice will be used to help build cohesion and chemistry — all while fulfilling the school's core values.

|
|
REPRINTED FROM
SB NEWS-PRESS
The Owls made the CIF's "Teams to Watch" list for Division 6 and figure to be title contenders this season in the Frontier League.
Natalie McCaffery '20, a second-team all-leaguer last year, leads a strong senior class that includes
Audrey Murphy and
Ella Delwiche, both of whom recieved honorable mention honors.
Other key returnees are junior setter
Annie Gabler, senior middle
Paige Levinson, senior outside
Bella Woodhouse, junior defensive specialist-liberos
Sophia Webster and
Bea Lujan, and senior opposite
Ainsley McGovern.
"I really like this group and think, when it's all said and done, we are going to be a very good team," coach Jason Donnelly said. "There's a ton of learning going on in our gym right now and the girls are responding really well."
Leading the newcomers is sophomore opposite
Lily Connor.

MIDDLES SHOW THE WAY AS LAGUNA BLANCA CAPTURES CARDINAL CLASSIC
|
|
BY DAVE LOVETON,
NOOZHAWK CONTRIBUTING WRITER
Laguna Blanca rode the strong play of middle blockers
Paige Levinson '20 and
Ella Delwiche '20 to beat Cate School 25-19 in a one-set final on Saturday and claim the title of the first annual Cardinal Classic girls volleyball tournament, hosted by Bishop Diego.
The Owls (2-2) avenged a four-set loss to Windward one night earlier by edging the Wildcats in the semifinals, 25-22. Cate handed Chadwick its first loss in the other semifinal and finished second in the 11-team tourney, Windward and Chadwick tied for third and St. Bonaventure and Villanova Prep tied for fifth.

LADIES OF LAGUNA: RUN WITH US IN THE SHE. IS. BEAUTIFUL. RACE!
|
|
|
Andra Wilson, Laguna's Physical Education teacher, has created a Laguna team called LADIES OF LAGUNA (LOL) so we can all meet up and start the race together—faculty, students, parents, and alumni! There is a 5K, 10K, and 10-mile run to match every fitness level.
We love that our local SHE. IS. BEAUTIFUL. RACE benefits Girls, Inc. of Santa Barbara, especially given Laguna’s close relationship with Girls Inc. as a back-up location for our Lower School students during Montecito evacuations.
Remember: when you sign up as an individual to do the race, make sure to register under the team name LOL!
