DID YOU KNOW that the newest young person obsession are caffeine pouches?
Often artificially flavored with Blue Raspberry and Fruit Punch, at least the pouches aren't nicotine. However, these “energy pouches” are part of a fast-growing category of caffeine pouches marketed as a trendier, cheaper and more discreet alternative to coffee, energy drinks and pre-workout powders.
The big problem: there’s no federal age restriction on caffeine products.
Misuse of caffeine can increase heart rate and blood pressure, contribute to poor sleep quality, precipitate increased urination, loose stools, sweating, dehydration, tremors, and restlessness. Moreover, in prepubertal individuals, excess caffeine can reduce the growing brain’s own incentive to develop certain connections facilitating memory and learning.
Please alert family and friends who are of the age where misuse of caffeine pouches may occur.

Steve: A landmark study from Science is upending a long-held assumption in longevity research: that genetics accounts for only a modest share of how long we live. Earlier estimates placed the genetic contribution to lifespan at somewhere between 10 and 25 percent. The new research, which analyzed twin databases from Sweden and Denmark - including, for the first time, twins raised apart - puts that figure closer to 50 percent.
The key methodological breakthrough was separating deaths caused by biological aging from those caused by accidents, infections, and environmental factors. When those external causes of death were filtered out, the inherited component of lifespan came into much sharper focus.
At the same time, one of those external causes, environmental exposure, may further enhance genetic risk, and over multiple generations. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are synthetic compounds found in plastics, pesticides, personal care products, food packaging, and water supplies that interfere with the body's hormonal signaling system. They can mimic hormones, block natural hormonal signals, and alter how hormones are synthesized, transported, and metabolized - often at concentrations far below what was once considered a threshold for concern. The list of associated health consequences is extensive: thyroid dysfunction, metabolic disorders, reproductive difficulties, endometriosis, PCOS, precocious puberty, early menopause, persistent inflammation, and hormone-dependent cancers.
What makes EDCs particularly alarming is their ability to induce epigenetic changes - essentially reprogramming how genes are read and expressed - during critical developmental windows like pregnancy, breastfeeding, and puberty. Offspring of mothers exposed to EDCs during pregnancy have shown metabolic, reproductive, and immune abnormalities that can cause third generation effects. All routes of exposure matter - food, water, air, and what is applied to the skin.
Hence, the biological drivers of aging and chronic disease are more complex, more heritable, and more environmentally shaped than what was previously recognized.
