The News of Zion

Love God

Love People

~Luke 10:27

March 17, 2023

When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes, saying to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see.  John 9:6-7

This week’s text from John 9: 1-41 is entitled in many of your Bibles as “A Man Born Blind Receives Sight”. It is not only a story of healing, but also a story of signs and identity. Here, Jesus is not only the giver of sight (through healing), but also the revealer of truth both in the literal and figurative senses. He not only restores the man’s eye sight, but he also reveals the truth of Jesus’ identity, all the while challenging the Pharisees’ own blindness to the truth. For not only is Jesus the Light of the World, but also revealed as the Messiah by God through the restoration of sight to blind. Darkness, then light, blindness and then sight, but Jesus is not only speaking of literal blindness, he is also speaking to the Pharisees spiritual blindness.  Join us this week as look at this conversion story and what it means to us today. Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me…

Recently, some of our church members have been contacted by a scammer. Persons contacted received text messages that appeared to be from our Pastor who was asking for the member to purchase eBay gift cards for an urgent charitable need.

Please know that neither our Pastor nor any church officer would make such a request. Should anyone receive a suspicious message, phone call, letter, or email that appears to be from the Pastor or the Church trying to solicit funds or your personal information, please contact the Church Office so we can be made aware of what is happening.

Legitimate Church fundraisers are always publicized in our bulletins, newsletters, the Church website, and the Church’s Facebook page. But even still, it is not impossible for a hacker to get into online sites and make changes. We hear about these things happening to individuals and organizations quite often. So, we need to be wary of anyone asking us for money or our personal information. Always be willing to question something that looks suspicious.
