Although consumers are eager for physical home tours and open houses to resume , it’s important to know what COVID-19 restrictions remain in place in New Mexico . In a video from NAR’s “Pivot in Place” series, Lesley Muchow, NAR’s deputy general counsel and vice president of legal affairs, discusses your legal duties to keep clients safe during the course of real estate transactions and best practices for mitigating your risk.
June is Homeownership Month
As June is Homeownership Month , now is a good time not only to review all your obligations under the Fair Housing Act, but also to push yourself toward a greater understanding of your own hidden biases. To that end, NAR has worked with the Perception Institute to create a new training video, “Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing.” The video explains how our brains’ associations with stereotypes can cause us to treat people unfairly—even if we have good intentions.

May 2020 Housing Stats
New Mexico's statewide average of 54 days-on-market for May is the lowest number of days from listing to sale since NMAR started tracking this statistic in 2018.

Consumers Value a REALTORS®' Guidance
In a recent NAR survey, part of a series of surveys exploring how home buyers and sellers want to safely handle home sales transactions during the COVID-19 pandemic, data shows a majority of buyers (54%) and sellers (62%) said that particularly during the pandemic, a real estate agent’s guidance is especially valued.

Advocacy
Special Session Scheduled
The New Mexico Legislature will meet in special session beginning June 18. The main purpose of the session is to modify the state budget which takes effect July 1. The Governor will also ask the Legislature to consider tax relief for individuals, loans for small businesses and local governments, police reform and election improvements, among other topics.


Committee meetings and floor sessions of the House and Senate during the special session will be webcast. Watch the live webcast of special session here
NAR Advocates Every Day for REALTORS® and Property Owners
In Washington, D.C. both the House and the Senate are in session this week and several issues are on NAR’s radar. NAR is submitting a letter in the Markup of Invest in America Act and is providing a statement on the Paycheck Protection Program Loan Forgiveness. NAR also submitting input on the Worker/Family Tax Relief During COVID-19 Recession.

NMAR Annual Meetings
As you may know, the New Mexico Housing Summit has been postponed until 2021. That means NMAR’s Fall Conference is being replaced with virtual annual meetings. Tentative dates are:

  • NMAR Board of Directors – August 27, 10 a.m.
  • RPAC-NM – August 28, 10 a.m.
  • Benevolent Fund – August 26, 10 a.m.
  • Stanley H. Mathis Foundation – August 26, 1:30 p.m.
