SWEETS BY JULIE
Julie Reed is the gluten-free baker behind Sweets by Julie. She calls herself the jack of all trades and master of a few; she's a wife, mom to Gabby & Owen, business owner, cook, and former ophthalmic photographer.

Julie began baking as a child but didn't start baking gluten-free treats until she was diagnosed with Celiac disease in 2007. (Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes a negative immune reaction to the gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye). She continued to experiment with different gluten-free flours, but was never able to find "the one."

Upon moving to Simpsonville in 2016, she didn't like any GF baked goods that she found.

"I took the challenge to bake gluten free. I did research and tried many recipes until the end result was AMAZING!" She finally discovered GF recipes that taste like the real thing.

"I am happy to say that I have some amazing recipes that I can't live without."

Anyone who's tried gluten-free baked goods know it's common for the treats to taste and have the texture of cardboard.

"I love that I can share my baked goods with the people of the Upstate that are looking for quality gluten-free baked goods," she says. "I look forward to seeing where my baking journey takes me and serving the Upstate."

MORGAN MATTSON
We're in love with everything that Morgan makes. Hand-thrown and hand-painted ceramic pieces that are one-of-a-kind.

Morgan Mattson is a painter, art teacher, and ceramicist.

After graduating from Penn State, she moved to Simpsonville with her now-husband. Her main career is as a ceramics teacher at Greenville High. Her love of teaching ceramics led her to make handmade pottery her side job.

"My work revolves around being fun and functional. I love art that has a purpose, and if it looks great while doing its job, isn’t that better?!"

Morgan has always gravitated toward the handmade aesthetic. She throws pots on a wheel and then hand builds them. "Each piece focuses on surface design to make them really stand out amongst other ceramics."

Her focus on surface design stems from her original love of painting. She still does paint, but ceramics are her main focus.

Morgan won a competition held by Greenville Soil and Water, allowing her to commission a storm drain mural in downtown Simpsonville. Next time you're near Vaughn's, it's located across the street in the corner.

To see more of her work, visit her website and follow her on Facebook & Instagram.

This property is great for investors! Located within walking distance of downtown Simpsonville and around the corner from Simpsonville Elementary. See the listing here.
BRY OVERHEAD DOOR SERVICE
Meet husband and wife Brian and Stephanie Biggers, who run a garage door repair/install company together.

Owner Brian Biggers was working for another company when he decided he was ready to branch out on his own after seeing people get ripped off by other door companies. He and his wife Stephanie started out grassroots style by walking around Walmart, YMCA, and different parking lots handing out flyers.

"The goal was and still is to provide quality, professional work, at a price that anyone can afford," says Stephanie.

When Brian worked for other companies, he was driving hours away and would sometimes be gone all day, which kept him away from his three kids, Brianna, Brice, and Ben.

"By being your own boss, you can make your own hours and make sure you’re around for your children’s sporting events, dance recitals, and just life in general," says Stephanie.

Brian sells, installs and repairs the doors by himself while Stephanie handles advertising and scheduling. "A lot of customers appreciate the fact that it’s the owner coming out and talking to them and doing the work for them."

The company doesn't charge a service fee, and they assess problems for free first and then let their clients decide if they'd like to pay for repairs/installation.
