e-Grapevine November 2022

TRUSTEES CORNER

Welcome to November! We have already had our first snow and are now back to balmy temperatures in the 70’s! Before we know it, however, winter will be here to stay. Make sure to get your mailbox protectors up and be prepared for the weather!

We hope that Concord Twp. voters are planning to do their civic duty on November 8th or before. Either way, make sure to VOTE!

The holiday season is around the corner and with that, comes the importance of staying vigilant with holiday safety and crime prevention. The Township recently approved the installation of two Flock cameras. These cameras aid law enforcement in identifying stolen vehicles, vehicles attached to active warrants, and also aid in crime investigations. While the Flock cameras do not monitor speed and are not “red-light cameras” that cause tickets to be issued, they are extremely useful for police investigations and for keeping our community safe.

A year ago, we received a Lake County grant which added two additional deputies for Concord Township. We have already seen the effects of this added presence in the community. â€śSince the addition of new deputies in Concord, we have seen a month to month reduction in major crimes. Additionally, the new deputies have supplemented our ability to conduct proactive measures which has resulted in an increased number of traffic stops being performed. The benefit is seen in safer roads and communities,” Deputy Chief Izzo said.

Here are some important Holiday Safety and Crime Prevention tips from our Lake County Police:

At Home

  • Make sure all doors and windows have secondary locks (window pins, deadbolts, dowels, etc.) and use them!
  • Don't hide spare keys in mailboxes or planters, or under doormats.
  • Ensure that dark areas and entrances have outdoor lights that are turned on after dark or are activated by sensors.
  • Keep trees and shrubbery trimmed so they do not conceal doors and windows. Remember, overgrown foliage can provide a hiding place for criminals.
  • Place gifts where they can't be seen from the outside.
  • Consider safe deposit boxes for coin and stamp collections, seldom-worn jewelry, stock bonds, etc.
  • Be sure to mail cards, checks or gift certificates from the Post Office or at a blue U.S. Postal Service collection box.
  • Lock your vehicle and remove all the valuables. Yes, even in your driveway.
  • Strangers at your Door
  • Use caution anytime there is a stranger at your door.
  • Be suspicious of unexpected sales calls or deliveries. Ask for identification.
  • Be aware of scams that criminals commit to take advantage of people's generosity during the holidays.
  • Investigate charities before making donations. Ask how the funds will be used.
  • Leaving for the Holidays
  • Ask a trusted friend, neighbor or Neighborhood Watch member to watch your home.
  • Use timers for lights and radios while you're away.
  • Remember to make arrangements for mail and newspapers.

Finally, we would like to salute our Veterans. Happy Veterans Day to our soldiers, both past and present. We owe you our gratitude for all that you have done for our country. Our great nation is built on your bravery and courage. We are forever grateful for heroes like you!

Fire Education

We have wrapped up our fall fire education programs, spreading the message: â€śFire Won’t Wait. Plan your Escape”. Our Fire Inspectors Doug and Brien, along with the duty crews reached over 1,200 preschoolers, kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders and 142 adults. Riverside families, including the 700 families of LaMuth Middle School, received virtual programing on designing an escape plan. If you haven’t created your family escape plan we have tools to help.

Have a safe Thanksgiving Day.

CONCORD TOWNSHIP CEMETERY

Wreaths Across America (WAA) December 17, 2022 @ 12:00 pm

Each December, on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to Remember and Honor those who served and their families, along with Teaching the next generation about the value of freedom, is carried in cemeteries across the nation.

In 2021 2.4 million veterans’ wreaths were placed at 3,137 participating location with the help of some two million volunteers, a third of which were children.

This year’s wreath laying ceremony will be held on December 17, 2022 at noon at the Concord Township Cemetery. Please help us to Remember, Honor and Teach by sponsoring a $15.00 wreath(s) for our veterans in our cemeteries.

Go to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/OH0164 or pick up a form in Town Hall or at the Community Center.

SERVICE DEPARTMENT

The Service Department is readying the Equipment for the upcoming winter season, and finishing our construction season. The Crews will be out making necessary repairs before winter. The annual brush day collection was a great success as many residents took advantage of the brush drop off.

The annual curbside leaf collection will take place on November 28th starting at 6am. Residents are encouraged to have their leaf bags out at the curb the night before. Major Waste will start on the 28th and they plan to finish by the end of the day. There will not be an alternate pick up day. The Service Department Yard Waste drop off will also end on November 28th at 2:30pm.

The Mailbox Snow Barricade program is also a huge success. Residents that wish to purchase a snow barricade may do so by filling out the Snow barricade application found on the Concord Township website. The fee for the snow barricade is $50. Once the Service Department receives the application and payment the resident is placed on the list for install.

As we approach the winter season, we remind residents and motorists to plan for longer travel time when the weather conditions worsen and to slow down and move over when approaching crews working along the roadways. The Service Department reminds residents with any questions or concerns to contact us at 440-350-3225 or email us at the addresses at concordtwp.com.
